have to say, I want to,BUT... I’ve not given it any thought yet.

I’ve wondered about some of those cheap LED “bottle” lights that you can now get from the bargain shops for about £2 that have a cork on the end with the battery and switch in (can hide that else where) and just make some shades for each led.
They may be too bright, and may have to rethink. it’s also where to put them.

I would have thought that the trusses should have some kind of upturned troughs hanging from them to collect the smoke etc from the locos (no idea if there is space) so is it a hanging light or a wall mounted light?

I used some battery operated warm yellow Christmas lights, only cost me £2. My shed is an old card kit and didn't have any trusses, so I scratch built mine using some old strips of wood my Dad has in his modelling stash. I glued the lights in position and routed them along the central section of the ceiling. They don't look too bad. I'll post some photos on my engine shed so as not to steal your 'limelight' , pardon the pun! :avatar:

If you use the standard 3mm LED's, just slip a 3mm washer up to the 'flange' part of the LED and hold with a spot of glue. This then looks like the old style of light fittings, and you can bend the wires so a to form the 'mounting bracket', with a small amount of each lead poking through the wall face, soldering supply wires on the inner side.

actually no, other side of town. it’s Brierley Forest park at Huthwaite. Been open 25 years since the pits went... and I’ve been 3 times... :(

I may go with the bulb ones from Express models as I used in the Boxfile project. They come with brass lamp shades which when painted white inside and grey or green outside looked the part.
If I wire two or three together with a 12v feed it makes them 4v each and a nice dim glow...

    Well, that’s another option. :)

So the last wall has been set ready for cutting out later (after the kids are in bed) some other bits have since been glued to the sheet that will also be required.

so I’ve started to mock it up. Please excuse the Xmas decks, but wife’s at work and the hearth is the flattest area to work on ;);). Starting to look BIG and I’m now hoping we actually have room for it and it didn’t need to be half a bag shorter. :( Only time will tell.

here’s the back end - I will probably put a vertical buttress up that joint to hide it... probably not long after I glue those two halves as one.

    Right last update for today.

Last side(s) cut. (2 halves) - and here we go.
F16FB513-90DA-49ED-AF9B-40C298410646.jpeg So the plan of the building is complete. (I really must take it to the layout and ensure it aligns with the tracks. I have a fear that it may be too long!)

    9D48FFDE-E3CF-44D2-A74C-717A61C69CDF.jpeg
    From the front.

Now I have incorporated a little trick for the stability at this point. The single entrance has been “slotted” on to the main wall.

    36CBF59F-D40C-4AB8-9653-6A7F79438BDB.jpeg

The wall ends have half buttresses, I’ve plenty spare so the inside had its fitted , and I fitted one on the outside. As you can see, it’s not a perfect alignment with the inside, but you won’t ever see that apart from now.

    more soon.

This evening it was time to bite the bullet and do a test fit. My biggest fear was it was going to be too long...

thankfully it’s not, but, I do need to do some slight track realigning for some clearance issues identified.

In position. At first it looks ok.

    88B60BEF-EB2C-4F51-8573-DDA9E22712FD.jpeg
But looking closer, road 2 needs a little bit to the right.

    41E37EA9-B464-4762-B7BF-8218656D11E1.jpeg
    Road 1 is OK.

    A60D5A1C-46B3-46E9-AA9F-5CE805FE0881.jpeg
Road 3 is also looking OK
    BACE865B-C119-4357-9FDA-4A32A603D3E8.jpeg
but the last line will need a slight adjustment towards the end of the board. It’s a little too close to the side of the shed, but there is room, just means I have to move the wires feeding the track.

    And an almost overhead view.
Reminds me of some old steam sheds that lost their roofs.

    Looking pretty good, Andy. :)

Huthwaite eh? Not far from me in Shirebrook. Do you know if there are any clubs in Mansfield or Sutton in Ashfield. I'm curious as to whether there are fellow modellers in the area. :D

The Elizabethan have a club up at the back of the Lammas Leisure Centre in Sutton. Have an exhibition in October at Kirkby. (I’ve never been a member due to shift work)

Steam shed looks superb Andy... a few tweaks regarding track spacing clearances... not being critical of course.:tophat::tophat:

Aye, exactly the same reason I haven't been part of a club. I used to be part of the one in Sheffield but stopped attending due to a difference of opinion with a particular member, but that's no reflection on the club itself - lovely blokes, all.

I think I went to the Elizabethan to check them out once, but I don't recall.

Sometimes problems arise in these club type situations because often a member can have a very particular viewpoint and fails to consider other members don't always share the same interest, I think you did the right thing Dan by walking away... no point having to rub shoulders with someone who won't get along with you. Take care mate and have a great Christmas break... hopefully get some modeling in.:thumbs::tophat::avatar:

    Hi Dan.
I'm in Morton, t'other side of Tibshelf, so not far from Shirebrook. (I met you a year or so ago at the Mansfield exhibition). I had membership for a time of what was the Wingfield Model Railway group, which had a clubroom in the old Staveley Company offices at Barrow Hill. The members were fine as individuals, but didn't seem to do very much except tinker with a large layout which had been built by deceased members back in the 80's and a smaller and slightly newer one. The fascination of "Run what ya brung" was lost on me, and the Chairman admitted that they'd lost members who had described membership as "An expensive tea drinking club". I'm afraid I soon got bored with that approach and baled out, not having bothered with clubs since, although there is the Clay Cross club a couple of miles down the road, one at Butterley 6 miles away, and a Chesterfield one about the same distance away. For clubs to survive long term, I feel clubs need to keep moving forward rather than stagnate, otherwise members usually leave eventually, possibly out of boredom.
    Keith.
