A change of tack (nautical term eh?) I wasn't happy with the Scalescenes Puffer build …it's an excellent kit full of detail but my n gauge build quality just couldn't do it justice … so I bought a Langley model Puffer (expensive but detail excellent and it is a Xmas treat) and I also got 3 fishing boats from TMD (Telfer Model Design) good detail at very reasonable price and good service … I intend to use 2 on my layout and will convert one to a front wheelhouse design as shown

Fishing boats n' Puffer thingy given base coat prior to hand painting ... once complete they'll be planted then clear nail laquer (curtesy of the other 5/8ths) will be applied near the hulls of the boats to give a deeper reflection (the Puffer thingy mast will be detachable as it is soft white metal and just prime for bending/breaking) 20200107_162038.jpg

Just a small amount of progress (more visitors here) but coming on .. the fishing nets will be sections of hairnet (bottom of photo) from cheap Chinese shop 20200110_113206.jpg

Great read, I am enjoying this thread and the photos of the progress. How are you able to draw such neat track plan designs?

Hi Robyn I use .. https://www.anyrail.com the free version gives ample scope for most layouts and very easy to use

Getting the track plan you want is one of the most important considerations on designing/building a layout. It took me four attempts to get the JSRR right !

When does the track laying commence ?

    Cheers, Gary.

Very true Gary although I must admit that the 5 exhibition layouts I have built have been very simple track designs to ensure running trains and keeping visitors interested. If I had the opportunity to build a home layout I would no doubt go for something a little more involved. I am drafting plans to do a new version of my first layout. I think layouts like Ian is designing here are a real test of a modellers skill especially in a small space. Ian has put a lot of effort into this and his efforts are an inspiration.

Hi Gary track laying will probably commence round about the end of March when the other 5/8ths is in the UK for a wedding (just in case I superglue the cloth to the table again ) what she cant see will relax me
