G`day Folks and Welcome to Gormo`s Shed, This episode covers the making of pipe wagon loads for bogie bolster wagons, however the logic can be applied to shorter wagons as well…….it just means the lengths and type of pipe has to be considered. The method is not rocket science and involves the use of basic skills and materials at very little cost. The pipes are made from paper drinking straws, which I purchased here in Oz at 6 dollars for 250 straws, and Yes, I do have a surplus of straws now as I don`t have enough wagons to warrant full use of my supply……..but who cares???…..we`re not talking sheep station prices here folks…..we`re talking 2 dollar shop prices…….so no great expense required. The surplus may encourage me to think of new projects for the railway. Maybe the Great Chesterford pipe line project..????…...who knows.??? Below is a pic of my first attempt, which was documented on my layout thread, but I thought a full on, walk through the process may be a good Gormo`s Shed. On top of that, Gary had given me a suggestion for the paint process, which I was keen to try out. Glad you enjoyed it Toto, I have had a request this morning from one of the YouTubers for me to start making some of my stuff for sale...eg A Girder Plate Bridge. Time is a problem, as you know, and willingness to get involved in that process is another, plus the fact that I do these videos to hopefully encourage people to build their own stuff. So I`m afraid I won`t be going down that road......it seems to defeat the purpose of doing videos in the first place.... It`s a funny old world we live in. Gormo

As I understand it, one of the main purposes of this forum is to encourage others to 'Have a go' themselves. We all had to start somewhere, and the only real way to become 'experienced' (note I didn't say 'Expert'!) is to learn from your mistakes and try again. As you gain an understanding of what you are trying to do and how best to do it, you will likely find that you become more creative and hopefully find the enthusiasm to try other projects. Throughout my working life as an Electrician, I always tried to help and advise young apprentices coming into the trade (not always easy when you can't get them off their mobile phone!), but as I always said, experience only comes through doing and understanding what and why you are doing the job, exactly the same with Railway Modelling, so even though I don't have a 'U-Tube' channel or video editing understanding, I take the same view as Gormo inasmuch as if I can help/assist/advise anyone with the knowledge that I've gained (and I certainly don't 'Know-it-all'), then I'm happy with that. We are fortunate that on this forum collectively are quite a number of members with varied and vast experience of most branches of Railway Modelling (and indeed of the 'Real Railway' in the UK) who are more than happy to share their knowledge and experience, and I urge any members with questions to "Just Ask", there will be someone in most instances, who will be able to help. You never know, you may find you develop an ability you never suspected you had! Keith.

G`day Keith, Words of wisdom as usual... I think you nailed it there. I `m no expert either and I don`t know it all....far from it in fact......I just muddle my way through and hope I get a result.......doesn`t always work but the thing is to have a go. That`s the critical element here folks........having a go.......decide what you want to do / create.......find out how to do it, if you don`t know how to do it......either read up on the subject or put the question out to members of this forum.......and one way or another the information will come. But.....and this is the big one.......to learn and grow in knowledge and gain skills with most things in life......you have to do it yourself.......you learn zilch from other people doing it for you.
