As rumoured, a new competition being set.

This will be a cameo type project.

The subject matter can be anything you like. It should include at least one building ( no particular type ) and at least either one wagon or one loco but it could be more. This will only be restricted by the physical size of the baseboard dimensions which I will report back on.

The main emphasis here is on " detailing ". The reason being is that this should allow you to use up miscellaneous bits from your stashes rather than having to buy anything. Also, this could potentially give you plenty of scope for filling your time to what ever degree you want.

You can if you wish make use of proprietary products or ..... make them yourself.

I'll ba back with baseboard dimensions and a timescale shortly.

The prize ....... given the nature of what is going on around us today, I have decided to make the prize a donation.

The winner can either provide me with the details of a given charity ( including payment details so there will be an element of the winners involvement required ) or I will select a cause which in my book will be one of the most truly vulnerable groups at this time ......... " The homeless ".

I will set the donation at £100.00. Maybe not a fortune but as I wallow in a fortnight's annual leave at the moment, I am very aware of the fact that I could be returning into a furlough position ..... if not worse. Therefore I'll keep it at something that I can honour even if the worst should happen.

Please feel free to come back with your questions. I will answer the baseboard dimensions shortly. The timescale will also be confirmed at the same time.

Hopefully this will be a bit of a welcome distraction which can maybe occupy some of us through these currently stressful and worrying times.

That is a brilliant idea Toto, I shall keep an eye out for more details on the size of baseboard we can use.

    Andrew.

Does it have to be on a separate 12" x 8" board, or can I mark out a space 12" x 8" on my layout (which has no scenery on it as yet and no fixed buildings) and use that?

I like your thinking. Normally it would have to be separate but I'm feeling generous :avatar:

I'll allow that as long as it is clearly photographed before and after. That way you can kill two birds with one stone. Also from a financial point of view in times when we may have to make every penny count.

Good question and it's a yes.

Thanks. My reason for putting that to you was that I have no scenery on my layout at the moment, other than a few loosely placed and unmodified (other than being a bit playworn) Hornby-Dublo buildings. However, yesterday I have ordered a small quantity of landscaping supplies, which I hope will be arriving in the next couple of days. I am not sure what part of the layout will be the 12" x 8" bit (the whole board is 8' x 4') but I'll make sure to remember to get a before and after picture.

If it is OK, I might have a go at this as well. Do we have to post our progress here or do we start a new thread?

Does the board have to be 18" x 10" for O gauge or can it be smaller? Or 15" x 12" say? the same area, 180 square inches.

    Asking for a friend.

    Cheers, Pete.

The board can be smaller. These dimensions are the maximum size.

    Cheers
