Rightie Ho then folks I going to give this competition a spin just for the fun of taking part, this will be a first for me as I've never competed before but I have a crackin idea and its funny as well... so here goes ... what could go wrong hmmm :avatar::scratchchin: ... well probably lots.

So off the starting line we have a ply piece cut to an eight inch square in the workshop this morning. Only clue I'm giving out here is my micro diorama will be in 7mm scale... not much room then I hear you say... well I have a cunning plan.

    More tomorrow as work starts.

I've ordered a few bits and bobs today so once they arrive in the next few days I'll be able to compose the scene... that's all folks no more reveal just yet.

York Paul are you going to use a mirror of some sort, this I have seen done with good results.

No seriously Kev there are no mirrors or anything like that involved in this little project or blindfolds for that matter, this is a small scratch built scene and the elements I've bought in will be modified to suit, everything else will be scratched from stuff I have in the workshop... Toto knows how I can rustle stuff up from pretty much just scrap and rubbish off cuts.

So my entry is going to be an internal room composition featuring a figurative scene which will have a suggestive narrative which you can draw your own conclusions, the scene will be entirely scratch built and bought in elements will be altered to suit, the medium I shall be using is high impact styrene sheet (H.I.P.S) of varying thickness and all cut by hand the old fashioned way.

I don't really want to give too much away right now simply because that might spoil the enjoyment of following developments on this thread but the scene is set inside a railway Parcels and Left Luggage Office in an approximate 1960's period time frame and featuring much of the pre-grouping furniture that was still existent and formed the character and spirit of railway stations then. The scene is generic but will be influenced in the style of the North Staffordshire Railway. Now I've set my stall out here is the start point in pictures.

So the side sections were cut from 1.5mm styrene, there will be a window, an entrance foyer and a fireplace as the main structural elements.

I started to build the thickness of the fireplace chimney breast, this is the inside of the fire.

The chimney was glued onto the right hand side wall section, it forms a support for the model as well. Right now all I am doing is constructing the base shape to create a general form... its a bit like making a piece of sculpture... building layers of detail as we go.

Now on with the left side of the scene and I'm making a set of built in cupboard type parcel bins underneath a sorting table.

And a teeny weeny bit of detailing using the square to help the styrene set at a right angle.

And there it is forming the end of the sorting shelf, now I have two sides that can stand upright, that will make modeling easier from now on in.

So now for the door entrance, a thin strip down each side creates the illusion of thickness.
