Valid point. How times have changed. ..... or have we still to be informed of the " new asbestos " maybe MDF springs to mind.
Caesarstone and Quantum Quartz kitchen benchtops maybe? The silica dust generated when cutting and finishing these man-made materials causes silicosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer.

As a Stonemason I never touch any Sandstone with a power tool without wearing a Dustmask for the same reason.
Wise. A terrific trade as well. Very skilled indeed. I was a QS for a construction not long after graduating and they had a stone works division ( now defunked ). I had the pleasure of watching these guys at work doing specials in the work shop. What a beautiful trade. Hard work, accuracy with amazing results. Also dying I might add. Doesn't look to be being carried forward in terms of training. Very sad. Never mind. Keep up the good work and keep them skills alive. Toto
How about the paint then? In days of old when the stuff was made with lead as a pigment binder the average life expectancy of a painter was 50 to 55 years of age, having said that I suppose after applying three or four coats of gloss on top of five red lead primer coats because the glaze was so thin would be enough for any respectable decorator to throw the towel in.
The traditional lead roofers and the guys that do the paint stripping that I work with now have to have a regular three monthly blood test to check the lead levels in their blood.
Really that's interesting... should have been practice years ago really, anyway glad I'm out of that kind of high level work now.
I remember when Benzine was flagged as being Carcenogenic, and we were told we're ok as we use Benzene - so it's only dangerous if you use the American spelling, nice to know
