Good product Toto, I remember when I was a teenager and slot cars were the in thing for youngsters, one of my school friends who was a bit of a mad scientist, built a slot car dragster out of brass tubing stuck together with Araldite......maybe he wasn`t allowed to use a soldering iron.... That was the first time I had ever heard of Araldite. We used to frequent a commercial slot car track after school, that was down in our local town and located upstairs on the first floor above a hobby shop. My mad scientist friend placed his dragster on the main straight of the track and let it rip. It took off like a scalded cat down the straight, however when it reached the banked curve at the end of the straight, it failed to negotiate it successfully, but rather decided to travel straight ahead up the embankment, over the edge of the track and became airborne and on a trajectory which ultimately saw it fly out through the window and down onto the road below. Once it was recovered, it was obvious that straightening out the crumpled, deformed tubular wreck was a waste of time, however the glued joints had all stayed joined together. That`s when I realized just how good Araldite is..... Gormo
Toto, normally is that crash test dummy. With any epoxy, the trick is stopping the bits from moving while it cure, and check how long to leave it before attacking with the dremel Paul
5 minute epoxy is what I use. However it doesn't get fully set for about 24 hours so I wouldn't try drilling or filing it 'til the next day. I've had good results with Wilkes own brand but they hadn't got any in last time I was there. Cheers, Pete.
All sounds encouraging. I like the sound of the slot car made from tubing ..... I bet it must have been a sight. The fact it ran says something for him. I'm not far away from cracking mine open once I have satisfied myself I have the boiler furniture queries resolved on the Ramsbotton. Looking forward to working with it for the first time. Once I've set the pieces, I'll put it aside and resist the temptation to try and progress it further too soon. Thanks again Toto
Don't be tempted to mix too little. One of the main things about epoxy is the need to mix a reasonable amount up to ensure that you have enough of the hardener in the mix.
If the syringes are anything like mine you need the strength of Garth to press them down as its the consistency of treacle. Also put the cap on the right way round, there's a flat on one side inside. Pete.
I had a tube on the go for months before we moved - as long as you clean up the ends of the tubes and get the cap on the right way round, there will be less chance of the hardener getting in with the glue part and making it go off.
A chap who used to come on here once a long time ago now boasted his Araldite had been purchased over twenty years ago and was still going strong... must have been down to the air quality in Wrexham. I think there is a link somewhere on Google to the "How to" part of his website.

Just tried it for the first time, brass to resin. Easy to mix and fairy east to place with a pin or a nail to get it exactly where you want it. One of the secrets is to make sure all the pieces to be glued are prepped in order to get maximum working time out of it. I'd say doing so and with its ease of use, you shouldn't have any issues or worries in using it. You can feel the difference as your working time starts to run out and yes, 5 minutes is about right. I'll check the finished result tomorrow. They state 2 hours to maximum strength but folks are recommending 24 hours to be sure. So far a 5 star product. I like it. Cheers Toto
I like 5 minute Araldite and use it for most white metal kit construction. however, I'm not keen on the syringes, preferring the normal toothpaste tube style. My current lot has been in use for around six or seven years, and would still be good if I could get the lid off one of the two tubes! The clearer part can crystalise after a while in storage; the fix is to put the tube in very hot water for a few minutes, and it returns to its more clear liquid state.
