The doorway is going to be a corner entrance and set at an angle so I lined it up on the wall using the square as a support, the back wall will be glued next to complete the corner.

There we have it, we won't need to see an outside space as the door will partially obscure the entrance porch and this is just to create a suggestion of the outside and an illusion of space, at the moment I am just creating a basic shape as the foundation layer for the next processes, the parcels shelf being the exception as it forms part of the furniture.

Started the first stage detailing with the addition of support partitions underneath the parcels shelf, I know this is correct as plans I have of the 1885 plans for construction of the parcels office at Leek clearly shows this feature.

Finally for this evening I knocked up a half height partition wall, just dry fixed at the moment it stands a scale five feet tall and prevents the public from just wandering into the parcels storage collection area... such was the security in those far off days of sixty years ago. That's all for now, next job is to add in some dado paneling around the window wall.

Thanks Kev... Not done any more today as I've been in the garden doing vegetable jobs but with a nice cuppa I'm now going to get an hours bench work done on this. Will probably make up the back wall paneling and dado overlay along with the window decor edge... pictures to follow or Toto will be after me :avatar:. See you laters as they say round these parts.

Been doing a bit of research for the parcels office competition diorama which involved studying Avery heavy duty industrial weigh scales and also the poster size British Railways used, not much luck with Avery except I now know the plate depth is 39 inches and the width is 34 inches... oh well it will have to look something like at this point. The research on posters fared better and I discovered BR used a a size called Quadruple Crown which was 30" x 40" in landscape and 30" x 20" as portrait in single format, all good so far until I found a dealer selling original BR posters which measured 40" x 25" and $0" x 50". Now I'm confused and I don't blame yo if you are too.

So I made a notice board and it does look a touch too big so I may just trim it down in size.

Here is some of my research for an Avery scale... I shall make one of these from laminated plasticard shaped and formed.

Anyway winding back a bit, yesterday I made up the wooden dado paneling for the back wall which included the decor moulding around the window, I used various lengths of round and flat plasticard strip. This morning I knocked up a generic looking parcel counter where the clerk would write out consignment notes and take payments. It seems to look the part with a ModelU porter standing with a sweeping brush, the dado height is set at 32mm which is a scale four foot six inches ... probably a tad high for a waiting room but seemingly correct for a working area such as an old fashioned type Left Luggage or Parcels Office.

The model will be 7mm scale but this is a picture of a real one someone is selling on ebay... yours for £450 and no hurry to collect either. :avatar: You could weigh all your loco kits using this Toto.:giggle::giggle::giggle:

Today I have mainly been going cross eyed, no actually I made this facsimile of an NSR cast iron fire threshold fender, fashioned from plasticard layers and sanded to shape. Not to an exact copy but it does capture the spirit, I fashioned a Staffordshire Knot on it ... a little overscale but hey ho so what. Still yet to sand the front moulding of the base into something a little flatter but that will do tomorrow as I lost the light. I'll put another layer inside the grate area so that the fender doesn't look too deep. I did try forming the knot as it should be but the micro thin plasticard strip kept breaking even when softened with solvent, so this one will have to do, anyway I think Her Majesty approves.:avatar:

So some more progress on the Parcels Office scene has happened, the basic window quoins are in place... Mr Solis knows which design they will follow. The dado paneling and inward consignment parcel bins with bench top have also been made along with a ledger shelf on the back wall. Tomorrow I'll make up the fireplace and mantel shelf and set to making the window frames.

Coming on a treat. Fantastic if not painstakingly small detail there. You must have went to specsavers for sure.

    Terrific viewing.

Just finished the fireplace, not an exact copy but a nice representation I think and all made from offcut bits of plasticard... so this little project really is about recycling... ah now there's a thought... the parcels office could have a bicycle parked up against the wall. The parcels clerk can't afford a car.

Next job now is tackle that window and then the door. Anyway progress so far.... enjoy.
