The fireplace looks good. With some of the primer coming through it gives it a worn used look. I'd keep it that way.

I'm going to Toto, maybe just a tad of some of the blotchiness needs subtle dry brushing to give a reflection of light on the cast iron bits of the fire, the green will become a solid colour as I add further thin coats... this is just the start really to show process.

Well Yorkie's Select Decor team have been out painting the parcels office and going to town with the patinas. If you see what's on the walls then spare a though for the health of those working in there.:avatar: The setting is early 1960's and it's on the cusp of the advent of the new electric railway, the decor is pure LMS post 1936 with Venetian Red trim applied alongside the universal earlier standard Light Biscuit and Mid Brunswick Green. This tired paintwork really did exist well into the BR pre corporate time span in places that had seen busier times.

Still quite a bit to do before the scene is fully painted with added patina... the floor is yet to do also.

I did wonder for a moment if that dark stain on the floor ought to be left in ... maybe a large dog had left a message by the corner post of the wooden partition.:avatar:

Fantastic!! I can really visualise the past (what I’ve sadly only seen in photos) come to life here.

Bit more do recently on this diorama scene, I've added a Tallboy Cupboard and the parcels counter along with a period advertisement. The floor has had a first base coat of light and dark representing dirt and wear, still a few mot items of furniture to make but generally speaking the walls have got a nice grubby tobacco stained surface.

I'll take better pictures in natural daylight.

So as promised a few more pictures taken in good sunlight today, more patina added and the floor has been dry brushed with more translucent coats of paint.

Lets now look at the detailing and processes used so far. The wall paneling and parcel benches weather differently from the upper walls which attract tobacco staining, in the picture the smoke staining hasn't come through too well because the natural light is possibly too strong and has bleached out the colour... but I assure you its all there. Now the lower panels pick up dirt, smuts and grease so over the Stock Green went a few layers of Sleeper Grime and Weathered Black all dry brushed and in liberal amounts. The floor had an initial base coat of black and sleeper grime to block the surface over as is done in any painting, next I added a few weal wash coats of brown and weathered black to build up the tones, finally I dry brushed the whole floor with GWR Stock Brown... what a super floor polish that colour makes.

What a nice shiney clean floor. To the right of the window we can see some distemper occuring in the lime plaster above the wooden dad decor moulding.

The parcels counter top has been suitably worn, I did this by dry brushing some stock cream over the sleeper grime to give the effect of wear and dirt. The paneling has been toned down with dilute weathered black to again show usage from wear and dirt. Now the parcels receiving counter and dado wall was painted with a first coat of Light Rust then followed by a second one of Early Freight Bauxite to get the Venetian Red coulour I wanted, the counter top was weathered down with dilute black and sleeper grime. Note how I have replicated the dirt marks where they would collect the most, this way the surface doesn't take on such a plastic model effect.

Notice the grime collecting above the advertisement board and along the top of the window decor moulding. We can see dirt on the window cill bottoms, the lower dado paneling and in the corners of the skirting boards. I also added a trim beading around the edge of the advertisement board as the original ones would have.

Next we have the "Tallboy" cupboard which would be a fixed item of furniture, in parcel offices this is where the clerk kept all the consignment records and a goodly stock of parcel labels along with goods waybills and consignment sheets. The interior has been weather to resemble old timber and the green colout added to the shelf fronts. Not the cupboard door lock too. Still some tidying up in this area to do but this shows process, next time you see this again I'll have removed those lumpy paint/ glue bits on the door.
