I am glad I am not the only one getting a bashing from the Dark Lords, be strong Andy, resist, resist. My advise is to mention it to the wife! "you want to start ANOTHER #~£$&ing gauge?" I have 1,200 rolling stock in stock, it has taken 10's of years to collect, not likely I will give up OO. But does not preclude doing both? As pointed out by my wife, who has already agreed to a 60ft by 20ft shed, buying a second one as well, twice as big as the OO one, for O gauge, is out of the question! That's not word for word, what she said, by the way
I have heard that the Dapol 08 struggles on tight curves. Any truth to the rumour? I have a 4ft curve on my layout but would like an 08. The Heljan 05 and Dapol panniers/terrier have no problems with the curve. Cheers Brian
As my layout is an end to end with just the pointwork for bends I cannot say for sure if they struggle. If you go on facebook and look for O gauge pages you will get better reports though I don't recall seeing anything bad lately. Pete.
Still tempted with a wasp strippped green with ladders. £189 inc Postage from Rails. (Especially with saving during the lockdown ) I may even go Outdoors with the track I have in storage (yeah... I’ve had O for years but just didn’t tell ya!)
Very easy to chip the 08's as well. Just squeeze the top of the bonnet and pull back slightly ...... instant access to the plug in chip ..... simples. I'm sure I covered it in a post somewhere in the RTR section. Toto
good man... just tell the wife you invested in a new insurance policy if she wants to know were the money went
"I’ve given in.. don’t expect any o gauge layout from me any time soon... And don’t tell the wife! Andy" And SMR Chris didn't even need to get involved, this O gauge bug is getting contagious, going in to lockdown won't help it just makes the symtoms worse - look at Toto Good news is that the 08 takes standard OO gauge DCC decoders so that halves the price of conversion. So far I have resisted the temptation of one of these ........ Paul
dam, it’s out of stock... 14 days or so to wait for a delivery. Oh well... be here for Father’s Day then maybe..
I’d already paid. They took the money yesterday so looks like may be in the post any day. Which is great when we’re both at work Saturday. Sod’s law that when it will drop and have to wait till Monday to collect from the office. Not bad when I’ve had 7 days off oh well. Just bad timing.
Well, D3002 has arrived. We have noticed the cab is rather sparse and that the vac pipe is anorexic. It’s also missing the Derby builders plates. So, guess what’s first on the list. Unboxing this morning. and sat with a “swinger” PAA (As D3002 is not airpiped!
Andy congrats on the arrival of a new family member I’m sure you will be wanting to Go DCC sound with this one and they are one of the easiest to do a big sound install as they have a generous amount of space for a quality speaker and 21pin plug in decoder. before you get into the install just do a check that the soldered on wires to the PC board are only soldered to the correct pads have come across examples that have poor soldering causing crossed connections with The results of letting the magic smoke that can’t be put back in out of decoders I would also for best performance remove the Capacitors across the motor supply and my personal choice remove the inductor chokes, and place links in place of these, this is a recommendation of DCC decoder manufactures for best performance from there decoders, Have marked these In the photo attached And the direct connecting with the dodgy soldering that links the track direct to the motor, not a issue on DC but install a decoder and instant smoke. Enjoy your new loco
Wtf!! Excuse the expletive! That’s awful! Yes I’ll have a look in the morning. Won’t remove the other bits just yet as want to give it a run on DC prior to swapping over. I read there should be a switch on their for the cab light, but it’s either under the blanking plug or it’s been removed on the later batches?
