I have stashed away at my Dads some hand built track.. it’s been there nearly 20 years (probably more!!! Thinking about it as bought it when still worked in the model shop)

some have wires, some don’t. None of them have any locking facility... so...

(Digressing slightly) I have this week been wiring in Seep point motors for Dad on his OO layout. I’m aware they do a sprung/locking point motor... would these be any good for these O points? (Not sure the make, but Markway from Sheffield springs to mind... are they still trading?)

im not wanting to go the expense of a DCC concepts or cobolt or tortoise points as can’t see the benifit in the extra expense over a £4 point motor. (And as for slow acting, I’m guessing whoever thought of that had never pulled a point lever.. they don’t move slowly! )

And how do I wire the points? Feed and frogs.

I think I’ve been spoilt with the off the shelf stuff sometimes to not have learnt some of the simple stuff! (Although to be fair, I probably could work it out!)

I think Marcway are still trading but the last I heard was if you catch the shop actually open you'll be lucky! I believe the owner is getting close to retirement, if so you can't blame him, maybe he's looking to sell the business as per C&L did.

As Keith say Marcway are still in business, or at least were before the Great Lockdown.

I wouldn't use the Seep locking motor, but would suggest using small servo's. SG90 on ebay Approx £1.50 each - less if you buy in bulk

Far more positive throw than a seep, and will keep its position unlike the seep.

That was the reason for looking at the latching point motor as opposed to the standard unsprung ones.

Servo not a bad shout though. Could use an Aduino board!

Sad day in deed if he does shut down. I’ve used their points on both my layouts and the junction they built for me is stunning. Let’s hope some one takes over and keeps this business alive.

I hope Marcway do survive the lock down. I have used several of their point kits over the years. They're simple to build and easy to wire. The early ones I bought came with a cast brass frog, not the prettiest I have ever seen but I soon learned to make my own :headbanger:

    Cheers, Pete.
