Well I finally moved house back in June and have been busy sorting out the new house. Got the house to a suitable point then turned my attention to the garage....
I have commandeered just under half the garage giving me an area 3.3M x 3M or about 11x10 foot in old money (i'm an aircraft engineer and still work in Feet & Inches).
With the help of my 15 year old Son I have lined, Insulated and vapour barriered the new railway room. When we put in the side door I opted not to have a window. So now it is peace and tranquility in the railway room when I shut the internal door. Here is a quick look-

The Class 29 and rake of Mk1's is in the fiddle yard so I can judge the length.

The sketch shown during the video was a quick idea which I am refining.
First bit of track went down today -

Dropper wires soldered and the next bit of flexi track is down too.

I have a Collie, just cover in well thinned paint and stand back, it will take seconds, although it will take some cleaning up of the paw prints that always get every where.

    Nice progress Andy.

A simple loop through the fiddle yard has been added to allow the trains to run....
So here is my 1970's Hornby class 29 doing the honors...

The permenant way gang have been busy today, wiring and fitting Seep point motors. All was going well until the second switch on the 3 way point decided to stop springing!
I managed to damage the spring when I was putting the pin through the tie-bar. Spring now removed!
Got 3 motors fitted with the Frog polarity switches wired up.
Just got to get a CDU and wire up the "Signal box".
Slow progress but I want to ensure the track is allowing reliable running.
Still need a goods yard plan i'm happy with.

P.S. Got the walls painted last week.

    Progress is progress !

Sounds like a simple fix on the three way point. Using Seeps, you don't really need the spring in place as it will hold the blades in the right position.

    Cheers, Gary.

I removed the spring and was hoping the seep point motor will hold it in place. Haven't tested it yet.

Looks like I may need to purchase a Seep PM4 latching motor as the PM1 doesn't seem to hold it.....

I would have thought that the motor would have held it in place, but now thinking about it, you possibly need the electrical charge to keep the magnets in place... We live and learn...

    Cheers, Gary.

ps, Can I suggest turning your phone 90* to capture a full screen video of your running sessions... ;)

Just read the bumf on the Seep leaflet and it recommends the PM4 for point motors with the spring removed.
Will try turning my phone but the case makes it awkward.

    Hi Andy

If your going to use solenoid motors can I suggest the Hattons Point motor (appears to be a copy of the old H&M point motor). My preferred option now (I've tried most :whatever:) is RC servos mainly SG90 type, they are gentler on the points.

Cheers Paul, I had a look at Hattons but couldn't see a latching solenoid point motor.
I considered servos and have messed about with them using Aurdino but really can't be doing with the faffing around to fit them and building a controller.

Been planning out the goods yard area lately. I have decided to keep it fairly simple with just 3 sidings.
At the entrance I have two points which I decided were too spaced out so with a bit of cutting and fettling are now much more compact.
    20201130_143819.jpg 20201130_143842.jpg
The white plasticard at the top of the image has been glued onto the back of the points to help maintain alignment. I have also created insulated joints for each of the rails coming off the frogs.

Nice work on those points Andy. The track formation looks great.:thumbs::thumbs:

I done something similar on my Waspen Street layout, but I shortened the turn-out rails to bring the frogs closer together on a pair of small wyes.

    Cheers, Gary.

An overall view of the station & goods yard area. The goods yard has concrete sleeper trackwork which will be fixed in position properly when more cork sheet arives.
The station will have one platform for through trains and a bay platform for local stuff. The engine shed will be accessed from the entrance to the bay platform. The class 29 & 25 are sitting at the platform, the black 5 is on the avoidance line.
