    G`day Folks,
Just recently my wife and I spent three nights out at Bathurst.
Bathurst is a regional city in NSW approx. 2 1/2 hours drive from Gormo`s place in Sydney. It lays on the other side of the Blue Mountains, otherwise known as the Great Dividing Range.
It`s a beautifully kept friendly city with quite a few nice and interesting things to visit.
The people out there were following the Covid practices to the letter, so we felt quite safe, plus I have not heard of any cases out there anyway.
I had a couple of things to see of special interest for myself and of course one of those was the Railway Museum.
It`s a rather small museum and is located right down there next door to the station.....where else would you put it.?
The main exhibit in the museum is a model railway depicting the line between Bathurst and Tarana.
The model railway was donated to the museum by local couple Paul and Bonny Hennessy.
The model railway was built by Mr Hennessy and master modeller John Brown and took six years to build.
For your viewing pleasure, I have compiled some video footage of the railway in operation.........enjoy.!!!

Now that does look like it would be worth a visit. Is the museum a recently opened one? The last time I stopped off in Bathurst would have been last year and I recall the Tourist Information Centre having a carriage or two at the back, but no mention of a railway museum.

We usually go to Dubbo a couple of times a year, to visit some friends (haven't this year though, as we haven't been travelling around quite so much lately), and I normally take a short break at both Bathurst and Orange, as it is a rather long drive, and it wouldn't be too hard to schedule an hour to spend in Bathurst on the way.

Also, if anyone is contemplating visiting this museum, I would recommend that they go down the road a bit and also visit the museum at 10 Busby Street, South Bathurst, the former home of Australia's best known engine driver and 16th Prime Minister, Ben Chifley. It's currently closed due to Covid-19 and will remain closed in the short term to implement conservation treatment, but it's well worth a visit when it does reopen, whenever that is. Here's a link to the Chifley museum's website: https://museumsbathurst.com.au/chifley-home-and-education-centre/

    G`day Wolseley,
The Rail Museum opened on the 22nd of Feb this year.
It is down next to the station in the old railway institute, nowhere near the Tourist info on the way into Bathurst, but easy to find.
I would guess an hour would give you a good visit.

It's definitely on my list of things to do next time we're in Bathurst, but when that will be I don't know. Probably next year, as our friends from Dubbo are coming to Sydney this year although, that said, a day trip taking in Lithgow and Bathurst wouldn't be a bad idea.

I won't have any trouble finding it, as I know where the station is.

    Jim

A day trip is possible Wolseley.
For me it`s 2 1/2 hours in the car one way, and couple of times over the past few years, I`ve gone out and back in the same day to do a days work.
It`s a pleasant drive usually against the traffic, which makes things easier.
