Gormo, thank you very much for your Shed episodes & have pointed many people to them & a double thank you for showing me how you did that Totem. I will have to download that You Tube video so I can look at it as I work my way thru Libre Office.

I appreciate the effort you have taken producing Gormo's Shed. The videos are a pleasure to watch. But as we all know, good things do come to an end... :(

Thanks again for all the informative material you have given us and all of your youtube subscribers. :tophat:

Merry Christmas to you, Julie and the Family.

    Cheers, Gary.

There are enough Gormo's shed articles to keep us all going for many years and in my case the start of the second set of twenty years since early retirement. They represent an encyclopedia of railway modelling so when does the book come out? Thinking outside of the square is what you have reminded us to do and when you do this the solutions come flooding in.

Best wishes and look forward to your continuing post.

    Richard

    Thanks Gary,
It was not all effort....it was fun too, and pushed me sometimes mentally to get creative........however I was always conscious of the fact that sometimes things can go on for too long and run out of ideas and you can get stuck in a rut..........so I thought it was better to walk away on a high, if I can say that without being a big head.?.......and leave a reasonable body of work and ideas there for folks to work through.......so there you are...:tophat:
Merry Christmas to you and the boys and let`s hope for a better 2021.

    Thanks Richard,
Yes if I were asked to give the minimum of advice to cover most situations in life and also model railways, it would be " Try and think outside the box "......and secondly don`t listen to those who say " It can`t be done "......if you think it can be done, just go ahead and do it.!
Some years ago, I published my railway progress on GCJ on another forum. I was at the stage where I was building the drop down bridge across the doorway of the train room. I wanted to have it drop down because it`s heavy, and if it was instead, the standard raised up bridge, and in that position it fell, it could possibly seriously hurt a Grandchild.
So I published my intentions to do a drop down ( against convention ) bridge. I just knew it would work and it would be safe. I`d worked it out, however one of the members on that forum could not accept that what I was proposing would work....?
So I built it........it worked......and I filmed it working.....up and down a few times.....no problem and it still works years later......however the guy who doubted that it would work, watched the video and commented...." Yes I can see that it works....but I still don`t believe it ".......:avatar::avatar: Honestly, what do you have to do to convince somebody.....
So folks, if somebody comes along with an idea about a different or better, or easier way to do things, ...do yourself a favor and listen to what they have to say.
    The book..????......no Richard.....I`m too busy building a railway....:avatar:
    Merry Christmas

    Thanks Gormo

My doc would have a fit if I partook of all those!

It's important to keep hydrated though, but sadly my beer of choice, VB, is a little hard to come-by up here in NE England and my chances of getting to Melbourne anytime soon seem pretty remote, but :cheers:anyway

    All the best

As a short time member of this comunity I have watched several of your video's and really enjoy your approach to problem solving and scratch building.
It really appeals to me being an engineer.
It has inspired me to be creative and try scratch building.
My plan is to creat a couple of signal boxes like yours however the levers will work switches to activate point solenoids.
Thank you for letting me in!

G`day Andy and it`s a pleasure to have you onboard with us....
If I`ve inspired you to be creative and try scratch building, well then I`ve achieved what I set out to do, so that`s good to know.
Your plan for the signal boxes sounds good. I started designing a system something like that a few years ago for Toto, but circumstances changed and moved in different directions, so it never got off the ground.
Best of luck with your build.

Well I never Gormo has moved on.

Thanks for all the work and contributions you made to these forums it has given me knowledge, humour and encouragement, thank you.
I've been occupied with other things recently and I had not visited this and some other Forums of late. So when I logged on here and could not find the "Gormo vid" I was concerned.
First check was to look at the recent posts looking for clues, eventually I found you again listing your vids and commenting that you were stopping making them at least not as regularly but you would be still modelling on here. Phew, that's ok then.

Thanks again, do enjoy the time you free up and IF you should make a vid or two please place them on here as I would like to view them.

Pours out a beer, lifts it up  Cheers Gormo I'll be watching.

    Regards

    G`day Barnaby,
Yes I have moved on or away from the Gormo`s Shed series, much to the disappointment of some founding members on this site, however I was finding it a bit of a challenge sometimes to come up with something new and fresh once a month......not always possible.
I also felt that in some cases I was duplicating the information when updating my layout thread etc. etc.......so in the end I decided to stop creating the series and just focus on my railway and updates on that.
So in the future, any new fangled, whacky ideas I get, relevant to model railways, will be showcased in either my railway updates or as a workbench topic on this site.
I have recently completed a very time consuming project building block instruments, which was allocated it`s own workbench thread......link below if you wish to take a look.
Developing & Building Bell Code Block Instruments.
I am still around and will stay around as long as I am able, so I look forward to seeing you online.
