I have recently acquired a Hornby R369A Class 110 DMU 3-car set and would like to fit some passengers but I'm struggling to find the way to release the body from the chassis to enable me to do this. Not having had one before, I'm unfamiliar with the procedure and don't want to used force unless I break something.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. DMU.jpg

Think you will find small lugs on the side if the chassis above each bogie and possibly half way along. Gently prise the side of the body away from the lugs, slide a thin pieces of plastic in to hold the body away from the lugs then pull the body off.

I had one of these once eons ago in my 4mm days, there are lugs on the chassis which holds the bodyshell in place and as Walking says prize apart with care. Another point is to take care of the window glass inserts, they are formed as a row of inserts connected together with tiny sprues which can break quite easily.

I have one of these and I had to pull apart the motorised unit when I converted it to three rail. Yes, these are held together by lugs and have to be prised apart, and I would stress that it has to be done slowly and carefully. Reassembly is the reverse of that process and, once again, go slowly and carefully.

Strips of plasticard or an old credit card, actually I may be able to send you some bits of a new credit card as SWMBO has threatened to cut mine up if I buy anything else :whatever: :( :avatar:

If you chamfer the leading edge will make it easier to insert between the chassis and the body

Quick check online and the service sheet for this model appears to be 281-115. Unfortunately Hornby's site is offline at the moment so I can't get the link to the downloadable pdf service sheet.

Thanks to all for the help, I have now managed it.

There are 6 lugs on the glazing which need to be tweaked carefully before the body can be eased off.

    Mission accomplished.

Whilst you have the body off, it's a good opportunity to paint the seating etc and (if you're running DCC) fit interior lighting as well as passenger fitting. The cars without electrical pickups can easily be modified likewise whilst you're doing that and it'll keep you busy during lockdown if you're in the UK.:giggle:

Oddly enough. It came from a model shop in Chesterfield, over 20 years ago. was originally the white Calder valley set. Cost me about £35. I believe the same model is now well in to the £100 mark.

The only previous model shops I can recall in Chesterfield were 'Redgates' on Knifesmithgate which was more of a toy shop that did Airfix and the like models, Bailey's model/electronics shop on Beetwell Street opposite where the Police station now is, this was demolished for redevelopment in the 60's as I recall, and there was also a model railway supplier in what was the "Stephenson Arcade" on Cavendish Street, which was where my parents got me my original 'Hornby Dublo' "Sir Nigel Gresley" train set about 1953. Bailey's model shop moved to Church Street in Staveley for a few years then closed. I'm not sure when 'WD Models' started as it wasn't on my radar until I restarted modelling about 8 years ago.

Years ago Mr S when I had the three car Calder Valley set I took the plunge to convert it into a 104 with the careful use of needle files and wet and dry. I discovered that by incrementally reducing the shape of the headcode box the original 104 destination blind box appeared and then it was just a matter of squaring of the top outer corners of the cab windows by using the centre one as a guide. The saloon windows then had their chrome edge frame shaved back and hey presto a 104 emerged. I remember Proccy and Steve Farmer were both very impressed.

It was the latter, the former form of WD Models.. but I can’t remember his name.

    Hello All,

might also help to PVA the windows in whilst you have the body off. Only a small drop adjacent to each window side should do it, capillary action will do the rest ( hence the SMALL drop ) as this will prevent the windows coming out. Do not ask how I know this.

    Regards, Echidna
