Thanks All.. when the final image first appeared on the screen and I showed the wife, it genuinely brought a tear to my eye.

looking photo realistic, all I could think of was... I made that!

I decided to have a little more fun with the virtual world....

I’ve added some paperwork to the notice board, a comfy chair and some stop blocks for the signal levers.

that was after I added lighting.

    externally no change. DCD8AAC1-A2D8-47A3-8F52-8E9B789FF1D6.jpeg
After the stop blocks, I added the signalmans register and also ,although modern) a very appropriate mug for the signalman.

these last shots were taken in my phone, so are not of the render quality.

Yes Mr S that is very much more like the pale Eau de Nil green BR used for station interiors in the 1950's which replaced plain 381c 226 Mid Brunswick which the LMS used on the North Stafford section.

Yes the LMS painted some of their station interiors green and contemporary fashion colour in the 1950's post war Britain was light or bright green with pale cream or yellow. Much as we have today with muted pastel tones matched with a dominant strong colour.

So as I progressed, feedback from those who knew the Leek box suggested a few bits missing.

I’d obviously added the chair and the stops for the levers to prevent them being pulled, but apparently I’d done the later LMS ones, not the metal NSR device.

so it was back to drawing and adding in some more missing details.

it was also pointed out there was a device above the stairs which I couldn’t really make out on the one B&W photo that showed the most detail till I was advised it was a bell on the bracket which was run by the signalman to alert the station staff..

Back to the drawing board to add some more details...

Anyway, here we are.. the latest round of the model rendered.. hopefully soon I can print the real thing!

the signalmans desk, now with train reporting register, bardic (probably a little early for the period I’ve tried to portray) the mug and the phone.

well ding dong!! The bell, with a little artistic licensing. Can you read the writing on the bell?

Imagine my surprise when yesterday I received an email from a long standing friend of over 20 years of something he had access to.. at first the penny never dropped what he was actually sending me and I had to say “where was this from?”
    380C10E1-69A3-4628-BA5F-CE847EB31740.jpeg
so at least one of the signal box name boards have survived!!! We suspected they had but thought in a private collection with one of our former volunteers family. (They may have the other end??)

moving on.. I found after reproducing the original track diagram in NSR times I’d used the pre 1920 version prior to track circuits being put in place. Yet the interior of the box model was later BR up to almost closure.
    AF0F7AF5-16E8-4448-A6EC-225112F701D4.jpeg

Shame as I had taken a few hours to redo this and was very pleased with the results. The original will probably scale to full size too..

so, it was start again with the later version.. I’ve finished this now, but inadvertently left the final draft in the computer at work (joys of lockdown Friday nights and no pubs open..) but an earlier draft is shown below.

    8F27E95F-BA1C-4EF5-A01E-D2CEEDDDB412.png

This will be fitted to the diagram board and the frame adjusted to suite in good time. For now, here are the last two renders I have done. One from the signals desk and one looking back.

And I can only assume it was a night shift?
    798B5661-0762-4F6C-AAB8-8CA37B7E5902.jpeg

So until we start to print the model, that’s about all for now!

Now then Andy you asked a short time back about track circuits at Leek, well there were two TC 2585 and TC 2586 both powered up by caustic soda batteries and from pictures taken at the north end of the platform of the SLS special you can make out the wooden track circuit cabinets housing these batteries and their shunt regulators. So TC 2585 was the approach circuit on the Up line and commenced at Nab Hill in rear of 40 Up Distant and extending through the tunnel up to 39 Outer Home signal. TC 2586 was the birth circuit on the Down line and extended in advance of 3 the Down Rudyard Starter back through the Down platform also taking in the platform crossover points (released by 36 via the platform ground frame) and terminating before the FPL depression bar on 28 goods crossover by 32 ground dolly. So there would be two black bar polar relay indicators on the block shelf in the box and probably a repeater indicator inside the ground frame hut under the main road bridge giving the condition of TC 2585 when showing occupied by an approaching train. How's that for railway speak for you Mr S ?

Yes, the track circuits have been added in (after almost a complete redraw) and the detail has been improved. (With Thanks to Nick Allsop)

So after all the build up with the earlier artwork and renderings, time has come to start the model.

The wooden upper structure has been printed, along with the internal roof. Windows and other items were printed beforehand.

I then tried the porch and stairs.

the first wall panel has also been test printed.

Good grief !! They are fantastic!

I’ve had to beef up the handle/ring as it’s a little too delicate. After printing 7 only 2 survived being washed.

I began printing with the translucent green resin as that’s what came with the printer.
I’ve since switched to the more common grey and reprinted some items.

the McKenzie and Holland cast headboard on the signal description board. EBEEB83F-F59D-4278-8516-79D6E4520AA0.jpeg This morning I’ve fitted the floor and placed some of the items inside. The levers are yet to be cut free and stuck to the frame (I will probably paint them and then stick them in.)
    B34F260E-8FE9-4331-B207-4CA58D213AF1.jpeg
    and finally the locking shelf.
Need to go Halfords tomorrow and get some more spray primer paint.

we’re currently printing the external roof and then it’s the larger walls of the lower locking room.. and then we start to build and paint.

Or you could simply just not put any levers in and suggest a low loader was coming to relocate the cabin into the middle of some dense woodland in Staffordshire... well that one was a similar sized box :giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle:

The signalman turned up for a shift last night.. found his box very empty though apart from his NSR winged signalmans chair. 0EA8EA95-F513-4321-9052-776FF2E40771.jpeg Which reminds me, I need to file back the roof beams a little more.

    Version 1 of the roof.
had a few issues as being designed for printing else where it’s come out a little fragile. It broke on the bottom edge of the slates and also at the top on the back.
    E5D112D3-3935-4F82-AC88-F3FDB211F8CA.jpeg 1BD5E40F-BC71-4661-963F-D05278AFD0D9.jpeg

managed to salvage something temp for fitting and it may still go for a primer coat.
Otherwise it’s looking not too shabby. V2 has seen some tweaks to the thickness and also corrected the ridge tiles. BC029C3D-8EC1-4171-9A66-294386F2E478.jpeg 0FCD403C-5178-45AC-9F56-E3A1BCB214D1.jpeg

Having another go at the locking room brick walls at the moment as the last ones failed again.. so this is the 4th attempt..

time to order some more resin me thinks?
