Just picked up on this guys and I'm wondering about the pin outs on the switches. Most 3 pin switches have a common in the centre like this:-

The Peco PL33 has a common at one end like this:-

Just wondering if it has caused any confusion as to get two faulty switches is unusual.

That was my assumption when I first looked at the switches on the slip. I forgot the micro switch is wired differently. On looking closely Tony had got them wired right. I removed or uncoupled all the wiring to the slip and re-connected them exactly as Tony had done and as they should be wired and still we had shorts, it was only after removing the micro switch and connecting a double throw switch in place the short was cured. We still had the other end wired via the micro switch but by this time I had to leave but Tony replaced the micro after I had left and that did the trick. Now I can only surmise that the micros were faulty in manufacture or somehow in wiring them up they shorted out, anyway all's good now,and Tony has a functioning (very nice) layout!!

    Cheers, Pete.

That must have really put your head through the wringer Pete and a great relief for Tony to know he had it right to start with.

Thank you all for the replies. I am at a loss to wonder why both microswitches played up and I am not convinced they both were faulty , I am not an electrician so I have to go with what works. I have saved the switches for further investigation. I have now tested the slip using my DC controller and have ran my Beyer Garett through it.
Jakesdad13 did me a massive favour and I will always be grateful . He has transformed my MPD.

This is my Beyer Garrett , It runs through my double slip really well.
Decided to run it today as a mate wants to buy it off of me.

Very nice, I have the LNER version to build at some point. Is that from a JM kit?

Paul , Yes that is a JM kit. I didn`t make it . Twin motors and the reversing gear has been left off as you cannot remove the body if it is attached.
