The first of seven leg supports were made in the workshop last week and a trial fit together of a couple of baseboards were successful too, only another six to knock up now which shouldn't be much work as mostly all the components have already been cut out. I shall fit height adjusters on the legs and decided not to router a rebate on the top support bar holding the baseboard ends in place because A) its a lot of work making a jig and B) a 3mm rebate would weaken the support, so I'll cut thin fillets of wood and glue them to for the shape instead. The cross brace supports holding the legs rigid will be aluminium flat bar... we will very soon have a nice foundation to start building this model on.

For 12mm ply I tend to just plunge through.
And pilote drill the retaining screws - helps to prevent spliting the wood - don't ask.

Recently I purchased some adjustable cabinet legs from a company "darn sarf" who make and supply such things, 14 of these have now been fitted to the wooden support frames which will carry the baseboards, now the question I'd like to ask is on the threaded rod connected to the plastic ground pad should there be some sort of nut attachment which passes through the top hole of the metal fixing bracket ? The hole dia is 10mm and the thread size is M8... checked on their website and they don't supply anything... or does the wider top hole just allow for some lateral movement ?

Anyway the support frames are now finished and here they were propped against some ladders drying in the sunshine today with their final coat of stain varnish.

The legs look very nice. The staining didn’t really show on FB messenger and I honestly thought you’d gone Gulf Red!

I have used similar feet in the past, however mine went in to a nut with grips on to it that fitted over a hole. So the screw thread went up into the wooden support leg itself. There was only one nut on these and it’s held well. Once pressure on the pad with the weight of the layout, they don’t move much as the thread kinda traps the bolt. Do these have a lower nut? I find these are useful with an open ended spanner to wind the foot down or up when set up to gain the level.

The leg bracket is threaded and the rod with pad just turns onto it just like a nut and bolt. I was looking for a sort of Victorian stain finish of either rosewood or walnut giving a different feel to the presentation of this layout once made, I'm toying with the idea of adding another stain coat of that ruby red Cetol 7 over the walnut which will take the colour to something more so of what is needed. The rendition of Nottingham Vic Booking Hall recreation of wooden paneling is a good comparison.

I must have been living in Scotland for too long, I used 10mm T nuts fitted in to the leg, and a M10 Coach bolt, if you're worried about the floor surface then a sofa caster will work.

I must have been a Yorkshireman in a previous life as yes, last ones I did were the same. :giggle::giggle:

But Mr B needs to have some quality to this build! (So not sure why he’s using my prints! :avatar::avatar:)

Just look at the quality now Mr S... and never mind the width :avatar: Another weak coat of that reddish Cetol 7 stain now on and we have the right shade of finish.

Five 4 metre aluminium flat bars for the crossbracing now ordered so with luck we can put everything together to see what its like.

Here it is having just finished printing.

And after coming out the washer - now to carefully remove the supports and then in to the uv cure station.

Still got the front canopy valances to cut and fix and the stone textures on the side walls to do... then work starts on making the inside.

So I have moved on to the next step for Yorkie’s waiting shelter, the lighting..

    D58B2FFE-0691-4EB2-A651-25E2775A97BB.jpeg

photo sent to Paul and myself via another group has shown one of the two lamps hanging down. With some research it appears they are LMS fitted (the NSR earlier ones were a hanging 5sided diamond look effort) gas lights as made and fitted from Sugg’s. Although we are not sure of the exact size as they vary according to the historic website, we believe these are the Rochester design (a similar Littleton design also feature on stations it seems the variation is the gas used and number of elements and the vent on the top for the heat.)

    15C17E1E-D4A0-4362-824F-AABB27BC25A9.jpeg

These hung in their gas feed pipe and were secured to the canopy support beams. The arm you see (appears at the wrong angle in the photo above) had chains secured to it to turn the lamp on and off..

    and so to modelling..

we set the goal to have working lamps and use a warm white LED. So first things first, was to use the vernier callipers to obtain the measurements for the LED as a starting point and then draw that up as it all had to fit around the diode.
    129E15FF-2FD2-43F8-9A9F-7F55C886DB70.jpeg

The nice thing about these LED’s is the dome bottom. This was the basis for the glass dome on the real thing as that was something I can’t get print.
    EE0CF6C1-CCD3-403C-A3E7-068E7A60A1CC.jpeg

Version one drawn up (on a meal break on a night shift so i forgot to take other step by step snaps sorry!)

    1597EA47-2630-44D0-83FC-32C55D7C073A.png
    And with the LED inside.
    6157EC13-72DF-47E1-86CB-EB6276E6D1FE.jpeg

A final cross cut look showing the step for the LED to recess in to and the space above for Yorkie to wire them in..

The very top and how we model from there is still up for debate on how we get the power feeds to it. Yorkie is talking about a brass tube and run one feed within.. we shall have to see once a test print is done..
There is around 3mm space inside for the led leads to be cut back and the wires pulled through.
More on the next stage and V2 soon (that’s the modified lever arm as I’m not happy with that!)

    Almost done on V2
Chopped in half for internal work and the the adding of the clip and hinge for the shade.. the glass dome would have been secured inside the shade originally and this all would have swung down to allow access to change the mantles….

I digress as it has nothing to do with the model.

Anyways, back side with the hinge and the recessed screws.

Front side with the screw fastening and spring clip.

Complete model lamp with the Mk2 arm. Just a few small valves to add to the lower side drum that adjusted the gas pressure on the feed.
