A session in a darkened room later we have the top in the correct orientation.

I have also added a bevel to the rim of the top to thin the appearance down a bit.

A slight tweak of one of the splines that create the loft has removed that annoying shadow line across the base of the flare

    That's fabulous Rob.
is it the tall version or the shorter one as used on the Class J?

Having double checked, it's the taller one (1ft 7.5"). I am not having much luck in getting the right one for Kerry's Class J....

    Rob,

The 1' 7.5" version is the short one and the right one for the Class J. The long one is 1' 11".
I queried it as the rendition looked a bit tall compared to its width but that could just be an optical illusion.

    Phew! Thanks Tom,
I thought that I had lost something in translation somewhere.

I have just about finished the chimney too.

I look forward to seeing the chimney.
Here's a nice photo of a compound Class J at Newcastle Central to give you some idea what the fittings look like on an actual loco.

The chimney drawing that Tom posted showed that the chimney has a brass cap so I couldn't resist...

The chimney looks spot on when compared to the photo above. It's a shame that the Class J wasn't afforded a brass cap like some of the other classes.
The NER used countersunk bolts to secure the chimney that weren't visible after painting as can be seen, or in this case not seen, on the above photo.

Thanks again Tom, it's a pity about the countersunk bolts because for some reason they were the very devil to draw today. Easily removed though.

    Dome next...

A few steps backward in the Fusion timeline and we have.

I actually prefer it without the bolts/rivets.

Does Kerry have the Ramsbottom safety valves that can be seen within the cover or will he need these as well?
Can you post a side on view of the dome?

    Cheers,
    Tom.

:headbanger: :hammer:  been there and have several t shirts to go with it :avatar:

Of course when it was round, it was equally wrong in both directions

Here you go Tom, for some reason I couldn't get any side views out of Fusion last night. I think that my laptop was doing an update in the background.

The transition from body to flare still hasn't been rendered well, but having seen the print of my earlier efforts by Kerry. I am not concerned that there will be a visible line on the printed dome.

Almost there Rob but I think you need to increase the width in comparison to the height. I make the height to be 2' 6.5" and the width across the bottom of the hemisphere as
    2' 2" and above the flare at 2' 4".

    Tom.

    Hi Tom,

Despite how it appears, I scaled the drawing and drew over the top of the dome. So it should match your measurements but I will double check it.

    Thanks again

You may well be right Rob. I wonder if it's the way the 3D CAD images are displayed on the screen as I also thought the safety valve cover looked to be on the narrow side.
In the comparison shot, with the domes set to the same height, the 3D image is narrower than the general arrangement drawing.

    Tom.

Andy very kindly printed off examples of the stove and brake standard for me and I am very pleased with them. But I had a hankering to see what they would look like as brass castings so I spoke to fellow Guild member Mike Hopkins and he added them to one of his casting sets.

I received them from him today, I do like a bit of bling!

Edited to add that Mike had some extras cast so if anyone wants some in brass they are £10.00 per set plus £4.00 P&P
