Welcome to Andy Sollis as our newest member to the Platform 1 Moderators team.

Andy is a committed modeller, modelling in OO scale and O Gauge. Although he gets involved in various aspects of modelling projects, he is particularly renowned for his interest in 3D printing.

I'm sure he will be along to introduce himself a bit better in the hear future.

He is the latest mug who has been press ganged into taking the poisoned chalice and sure route to madness that those before him have taken.

Dont say we did not warn you .....

Welcome aboard Andy and thanks for taking on the commitment and challenge.

    Toto

    Hello all.
Firstly to the other mods, thank you for the trust and the invite to join the team.
To the forum, may I say welcome and don’t worry, it’s still me.
For the newer members here that may not know, I started in the model industry back in the mid 1990’s working in a model shop, selling and repairing model locos, liaising with traders/reps and also doing bits on the side. My boss was also bus fan, so with my computer knowledge I was tasked to recreate some of our local buses in the Nottinghamshire area. At that time, I was located not far from the former station on the Great Northern (although it had gone and been infilled before I can remember) and so, my other spin off of Northern Bridge models was born for the Code 3 bus repaints.
That all fell to the side with a change of career in Sept 2000 when I moved to a control room and call centre at the side of another former station but this time the GC!
However I did continue my association with the full size railway in heritage form and found I had a love of the North Staffordshire and have been working at the Churnet Valley since early 1996, beginning in C&W before moving to guard. I have also been known to be found up the front of the diesels as well as helping maintain them.

After my first son came along, the railway modelling lay dormant for a few years, but as Alex grew older he also took an interest. He enjoys running my OO scale Oakamoor layout in the loft and also the OO layout at my dads in the back garden that we built a few years ago.
During that time of him discovering the hobby, I had also found some new 3D drawing programs, with the reason being I had always wanted to model the sand train that ran to the real Oakamoor sand sidings. To scratch build a rake of 15 was going to be hard, so I had a look at the 3D program.. and it kind of went from there? Buildings, wagons, signs, scenery, signal boxes… I’ve done a fair few models now… and as many of you may have seen, assisting Yorkie with his fantastic model of his recreation of Leek. And going back, you can probably see where My Northern Bridge 3D Models came from now! There is also another interesting side to that, but that’s a story for another day….

    well, that’s about me..

    Thanks for having me!

    Andy

Given how well behaved we all are there should be little for you to do Andy. Thankfully there's no microphone recording my language when I am using Fusion 360 or I would have been barred yonks ago.

    Congratulations

    Welcome Muggins ... I mean, Andy. :lol::lol:

From my recollections, you've been around here for a long time helping people with good advice anyway. Long may that continue, with you able to have a slightly more hands-on approach to control discussions if necessary.

Well, I never thought to add I used to be webmaster for the local classic car club, ran 3 of my own (all now gone with the demise of freeserve/fsnet remember them?) now assisting in the webmaster side of the North Staffordshire Railways website.

A few years ago, I re-wrote the stock books and guide books for the railway as well as organising 2 model railway shows which I’m pleased to say were well attended and turned a profit for the railway.
As well as maintaining the classic cars (I have 2 Triumph Spitfires and father in law has 2 Triumph TR7’s but his health is making it hard for him, so it falls to
    Me!)

    along with the 3kids! Yawn..

I will leave it at that!
