    I am really pleased with the van I received this afternoon. It's a Dapol VEA 'Vanwide' 12t 4-wheel goods van 230142 in Railfreight Distribution grey with yellow ends.
    I'm slowly making the transition from OO to O gauge. :avatar:

    There just seems to be more detail in O gauge Toto. I'm a long way of a layout as such but in the meantime I can collect the items I need.

    Absolutely. It all takes time and money of course.

    The chances are that unless you have the benefit of being in a club or having space, you will need to keep it modest. In that case, you should not need to much anyway. Spend your time and energy detailing the life out of what space you do have.

    We ( the platform 1 away day club ). :avatar: have met up from time to time at exhibitions and some of the best layouts are the smaller ones. Eing smaller , the creator has been able to fill the whole scene with very rich super detail. These can be ore interesting than the larger layouts although these are still ad ired as well of course.

    As long as you enjoy what you are doing ...... that's what counts and it does not matter how long it takes ... it's at you pace and disposable income as well.

    Just enjoy...

    They are or can be more expensive than oo gauge items but if I only purchase what I need and will use I should be fine.

    I originally thought - they're bigger so it will be easier, unfortunately, I think the rule twice as big, four times the detail seems to apply :avatar:

    .......and in many cases, less than twice the price, compared to 00 gauge. What's not to like?:giggle:

    Nice one Mark and it can so easily be understood why Gauge O size is hands and feet above smaller scales when it comes to detail... the downside is you'd need a really big room if your idea is to incorporate rolling scenery... which is where OO and N gauges scores the advantage.

    The VEA vans were rebuilt from their original condition as fitted VEV Vanwide by replacing the vacuum brakes for air equipment and adding upgraded springs with FAT 9 suspension... this allowed them to run at a faster speed than the normal 45mph associated with vacuum fitted wagons on short wheelbases.

    As you say just collect what you need and enjoy and have them on display... even just on a short length of track and you will see they behave just like the full size ones do.
