As Rob M mentioned in my Ransomes & Rapier kit build - see https://platform1mrc.com/p1mrc/index.php?threads/1933-ransomes-rapier-mobile-crane.5593/page-3

the NZ Classic Commercials range has been taken over by David J Parkins. I’m looking forward to hopefully ordering some of the original range, in the meantime I’ve just received 2 of the 3 models he is now offering for sale.

Fordson 7V Utility Lorry and an AEC Monarch 6x4 Tipper Lorry. Both items are 1:43 scale.

white metal parts look good, as does the resin cabs and tipper body (although it does have a twist in it at the moment)

These will now go into the “to do” list.

I like the look of the Fordson lorry, it would look well on my new layout as a coal merchants lorry.

    Cheers, Pete.

So while the paint drys on the SCAMMELL build, let’s make a start on the Fordson.

Not very much flashing to clean up on both the white metal or resin parts.
Instruction state that a trial fit of the radiator should be the first task plus adding the gear and brake lever along with adding some brass rod to the steering wheel

it’s suggested that the back of the radiator should have a black / grey wash so that when the etched grill is added there’s some depth added to the assembly.

next job is to carefully remove the superb grill and Fordson etches. The grill virtually clicks into place, but I have added the smallest amount of super glue. Tweezers are no use with the badge so I’ve used my “sticky” stick to making adding this fine detail to the grill etch.

Body, interior, dash panel can now be primed.

The parts for the chassis are very nicely detailed and a dry fitting showed up no issues.

The model can be built as a drop side truck or a flat bed, but which one will I build ? ….:scratchchin:

    Chassis parts all glued up.

So looking at the parts I thought, why not build both.

‘The flat bed is just two parts, the bed and the head board, which obviously leave three panels spare, so by adding two sheets of plastikard , one as a new base and one to support a future load. When glued up it can sit back on the flat bed as a drop sided truck aligning the hinges up. Best of both versions from one kit.

so here are both versions dry fitted together.

and with the rear wheel arches loosely placed

    Great looking trucks ! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Question for you... What glue do you use for white metal ?

    Cheers, Gary.

    Cheers Gary,

I’m using cheap (red dot) runny super glue with baking sofa for where it needs strength, ie the axles to the chassis.

For the rest of the detail items I’m using Gorilla super glue precise gel (Bunnings).
    https://gorillaglue.com.au/product/gorilla-super-glue-precise-gel/

I also use 5m quick cure epoxy for larger applications. It’s a two pack system so very small amounts can be a bit of a pain to mix up.
