folks, seasons greetings. I have been rather busy with real world issues for the last few of months which has been getting in the way of railway modelling, where I left off was in trying to convert Dublo/Wrenn Class 20 locos for DCC running and I ran into a problem. Both of my locos have poor wheel plating making one erratic for power pickup and the other hopeless, I believe that with good wheels they would be ok without a full blown stay alive decoder arrangement. I gather that the 2 rail versions of these locos were not a success for Dublo unlike the 3 rail version, which I suspect is due to the way the bogies can easily ride up on one axle dependent on direction of running reducing the quantity of wheels available for power pick up and tractive effort. Does any one know of any suitable replacements, without tyres is an option, modifying them to fit another, buying further locos for decent wheels is almost impossible online. Jim
Dear Jim, I am under the impression that Alan Gibson sells shouldered axles ( 1/8th" > 2mm ) which allows coach wheels to be used as driving wheels on HD Class 20s ( or anything else tha requires shouldered axle ! ). Regards, Echidna.
