As anyone who has done a bit of developing and printing in photograpy knows that getting the correct exposure is essential, the same is true for 3D printing.

There are multiple different exposure test prints available, but recently came accross these two.
Both from members of the TableFlip Tabletop gaming community.
Cones of calibration was created first, then the cubes of calibration.

    Cones of calibration
You will need to download the calibration tool archive (the link is in the show more) - it's free
    And follow the instructions

    and

    Cubes of calibration
This one takes a slightly different approach, you are printing to an exact size. Again follow the link in the summary to download the files.

I'm away to do some print tests

Hi Paul, just to clarify these tests are for resin printers only :scratchchin:

    Hi Jim

    Yes for resin 3D printers.

For FDM (filament) printers, you would have to play with layer height, and scaling to get the correct size. You may have to create several size cubes. Print and measure to see if there is a constant scaling factor you can apply, otherwise it may be a print by print adjustment.

Thanks Paul, yes I have already had to experiment and tweak settings to account for reality when 3D printing parts which are too small to print accurately as per CAD model.

It's all part of the design for manufacture learning process, the 'calibrating' of designs to suit the available tools :scratchchin:

And needs to be done for each resin or filament batch, may even need to be adjusted for temp as well :headbanger:

Viscosity is also an issue for us in the colder climes, and most of the published guide data is based around an ambient temp of 25C, probably 5C above my melting point :avatar:.

When I build my permanent print area, it will have some form of temp control and fume extraction. Hopefully soon so I can get the smell of IPA out of the house.

Mine too, but my Italian wife only starts to feel warm above 25C :whatever:

A little further on the tests for resin

    From Vogman

And again now using the Cones of calibration

The cones appear to be a good validation test for new batches of resin, or a confirmation of the resin settings as the resin ages. Resin has a shelf life of between 1 and 2 years (depends on the resin).

And now adjustments to reduce layer lines using Antialiasing and image blurring

Does the anti aliasing work on the mono x? Read many mixed opinions ref it..

ive never tried with it off?

I have recently upgraded the firmware on both my mono X's, so will give it a try.

Read a few posts where upgrade firmware has caused issues. Let me know how it goes.. I have resisted thus far.
