Thank you gentlemen for the warm welcome. Good to be here. This is my first experience with a forum so bear with me until I have worked it all out. I have visited a few forums in the past but disappointed by the "performance" of some of the players. What struck me about platform1.mrc was the apparent warmth and friendliness and I recognised like minded types with whom I felt a rapport. By way of an introduction, my modelling started in the early 1980's and based on the NSWGR and the central west of NSW where I grew up. I settled on the mid 1960's (steam to diesel transitioning). I started in the era of basic and developing DC models, lost touch for a while due to family and work priorities, and returned in the DCC era. I love my older models, (Lima, Trax etc.,) and admire the huge developments that have been made, but my passion now is to combine both, but in particular, working on my beloved older models to bring them into the 21st century. Something that I have become quite successful at and which I find hugely rewarding when they come back to life with all the "bells and whistles". I look forward to exploring the community and "meeting" with some of you and at some stage sharing some of my work. Once I have mastered the technicalities of the forum. Regards , Ross

G'day Ross, Welcome aboard from Sydney. Got to love the old Lima and Trax models, 38, 42, 44 422 Class from Lime, the 48s from Trax ! Right there you have enough motive power for a Central West layout ! Come to think about it, I have one or two of each in my stash, as well as some Powerline, Austrains, Trainorama etc Looking forward reading about your adventure into model railways. Hi Ross Glad you like it here, we try and replicate the atmosphere in a clubs 'bothy', where we can chat, share ideas ask for and offer help (sometines even the correct advice), with an added bit o banter. Hopefully between us all we can solve most issues, although world peace, DC vs DCC and why anyone would want to model GWR are still causing issues Paul
Hello and welcome. The old Lima models are, I think, underrated. They're not perfect by any means (look at the C38's tender, for example) but, unless you're a perfectionist, they're more than good enough. I have two Lima C38s, one green and one black, and I really should get my hands on some diesels. Here's 3830 at work on my layout:
