Hi all just received the latest Shiny from Hattons. It took an age to arrive 16 days but it landed safe It's the commission by Hattons from DJM for a limited production run of J94 based National Coal Board locomotives in various colour schemes. Represented is the "Backworth Colliery No4 in lined black The box is nicely presented out side with a soft foam inset with a yellow ribbon to assist with the removal. Once removed the model was inspected and all looks good comes it also with a bag of bits to install and a nice fine set of fire Irons. Out of the box a quick oil as per recommended in the instruction sheet and on to the track to test. It is smooth once running but has a slight pickup issue at very low speed and a slight tight spot so a good running in will be required Nice slow top speed as prototypical and a nice low speed creep, The finish of the Black livery and lettering is crisp and not too shiny. Also nicely finished red Rods. The cab has some nice detail and is well finished. The buffers are sprung although the springs are a bit stiff to allow them to compress when buffering up to a train of wagons. Behind the smoke box (magnetically held in place) door is the DCC plug a 6 pin Assy I haven't got any 6 pins in stock so can't say what it runs like on DCC yet See the photos Attached files

so, having now got this model have you ordered the next one in the "correct" scale http://www.hattons.co.uk/85281/DJ_Models_Dave_Jones_OJ94_001_Class_J94_Austerity_0_6_0ST_68023_in_BR_black_with_early_crest_tall_coal_bunker/StockDetail.aspx

It's been in a display case with the other locos for the Colliery railway in O since I painted it. Attached files
Being a Davy Jones model, has it been designed like the Adams 02 with provisions for DCC sound ? The Adams 02 has a removable roof for fitting driver/fireman and there is adequate space in the coal bunker for a speaker (sugar cube), decoder in the smoke box door ! Cheers, Gary.
Gary I haven't pulled it apart yet nothing in the instructions re sound just standard decoder fitting in the smoke box This was one of the first DJM announced and designed models and I don't think sound was high on the list if inclusions a few years ago. I think all the other commission models kept bumping the J94 back its been years coming then Hattons commissioned the NCB models and it suddenly got momentum again.
I'm surprised that sound was not a high priority considering Hattons had a working pre-production model of the J94 in 2014 on their in-house layout ! The Dave Jones/Kernows Adams 02 was on the drawing board since mid-late 2012 ! My order was placed after announcement in November 2012. Cheers, Gary.
Really nice model, if a tad clean Toto, any more loco's and youre plank will need extending just to hold the loco's. I realise some folks like to have a ratio of loco's to rolling stock, however I dont think its 1:1 Paul
