Having got the completion of my catenary out of the way after several other projects got in the way, I was also able to complete a job I'd partly completed a couple of months ago. It started in the local 'Lidl' one day several months ago, where I saw what was listed as a "Collectors Cabinet", glass shelves, sides and doors.......just what I need to store my "not being used on the layout presently" loco's in, thought I, so bought one, got it home (Boy, is it heavy, nearly gave myself a hernia getting it into the loft!) and mostly assembled it, then realised it was taller than I thought! I couldn't cut it down as the doors and sides were toughened glass, so how to work around it was the problem. The only place I could fit it was in front of the area where I still had some 3rd rail to fit, followed by completion of catenary, so until these projects were finished, this job was on hold. Anyway, having completed these works, I was able to fix the cabinet in the only position available, fit the 10 glass shelves and glass doors, followed by a bit of headscratching what to do about the quite considerable bit of cabinet that stuck up above the layout. I decided the best way forward was to disguise it as a warehouse building, so some scratch building with card and laser cut windows produced the item below. Attached files
It worked out quite well I think, as I now am able to have my loco stable easily to hand to swap and change as I wish, while still keeping them safe, clean and ready to go. Here's a threequarter view which gives an idea of how I went about it. Attached files
Finally, a 'full frontal'(!) view, handy, safe, easily accessible storage with lockable glass doors........note to self, don't lose key unless "Smash and Grab" is the order of the day!!! Keith. Attached files
I agree, a very clever idea and well carried off. So its keiths bespoke furnishings now eh. ........ I'll have a wardrobe. well done Keith. cheers toto
What can I say Keith Bloomin` Brilliant.....that get`s a six.......and well deserved for thinking outside the square. http://www.clickGormo
