HI , Again all - more help please - + ideas - so far planning the layout in o gauge - station running out of room fast - so - here is the problem - I am forced with one arm up my back, to cut through the railway shed into the garage - car sits on the drive anyway /////-- to put in the fiddle yard now the fiddle yard looks to be about 8ft ish - do I go the whole way and go station to station or stick to my original idea of just using a fiddle yard plank - please give lots of ideas for or against - don't mind - -- but need ideas thanks for reading regards Dave

A fiddle yard can be easily folded up out of the way to allow the car access (makes planning consent with the powers that be easier to obtain), you can always extend in the future

By the way a traverser is considerable shorter than a fan of points

I think Paul is spot on
A traverser will give you all the sidings the same length if you use a fan of points you loose 2-3 foot off some of your sidings.
The other option is a working yard / station set up as a fiddle yard for single opperation or if you have a session with others you can have a operational station that you can send trains between.

My Dads O scale layout goes through the wall and has a working fiddle yard whilst he has a lot more space 18ft, it keeps an operator busy shunting basically a fan of track with a loco spur and a goods yard reversed back off the back/last yard fan track.
See the video the layout has had some track work alterations /additions since but gives you an idea of how much space a fan takes up and this is with a 3 way point.

HI thanks for writing back , the car lives on the drive all the time ( to lazy to keep getting in /out ) so I would clear up all the junk - divide it in half - junk and my space, length would be 21 ft ( I was only going to take end corner -- swimbo said - I don't mind, do what you like ///--- best offer in years ,HA HA so I wondered if ,as I am on my own most of the time, was another station to much to use ??? making the layout to complicated ??? thank Dave

    Hi dave
I think even if your on your own most of the time a second station if you have room will give you a reason to "play trains" running between the two stations.

    Hey Chris,

    That was a great video.

What happens in the fiddle yard......is there a pilot or are the locos lifted to the other end of the train.???
