Hello once again I'm looking at a new scratch build project this time a lner wheatley Y10 not to be confused with the later Y10 (Sentinel D.E.D.G.) "Super Sentinel" Tram Engines. The wheatley Y10 originally but by the NBR to work in Fife on short trip goods and mineral traffic was an 0-4-0 tender locomotive as there is no RTR or kit of this locomotive I thought I'd have a go I'll share my progress with you all and hopefully inspire a few people to have a go but this loco is ideal for people with small layouts who can't use big express engines or large goods locos below is an image of said loco so wish me luck as can see this being tricky. Attached files
So first update frames have been made wheels mounted just to add motor mount and pickups not a bad size loco but already thinking I will need pickups in the tenders with a wheel base of only 30mm 7'6" on the real locomotive I can see points being a problem Attached files
Now that I like , great prototype to choose, lots of character I'm going to enjoy following this build!! Pete.
So a dig in the parts box I come across a mashima motor with gears and a gear box mount so that's one job done will be putting weight along the inside of the frames in the form of alloy wheels weights now to sort the pickups out Attached files
So I've managed to get some pictures along with a little bit of help from my dad and the plans drawn on the computer ready to cut the frames cab sides and foot plates out not looking to bad also got Axel box's and springs cast in resin for the tender I'm going to be using the GBL T9 tender modified to the right dimensions but it's getting there slowly Attached files
The drawing are from various sources luckily a member of my local MRC is a member of the North British study group and had a few pictures and plans
Thanks Chris, if I pm you my email address will you send me a copy for my "to do" files? Thanks in advance, Pete.
Did you use brass bearing bushes in the plastikard frames? I had some success in O gauge using 1" Aluminium Channel and a drill press to make simple rigid chassis. I imagine something similar would work for HO/OO scale using 1/2" Aluminium channel.
There are a couple of lads on the local to me exhibition circuit who build O gauge and O,16.5 models in card (and really good they are too!) and they use brass bearings super glue'd into card chassis frames. Pete.
