    Hi Everyone!

I've started work on structure 'A' - finally something is growing vertically. Here is the state of play for tonight - I'll do more tomorrow. You will notice I have to cut out a fair bit to fit around the plugs in the spine of the boxfile.

This all seems so long ago now..

Still think 20 hours as advertised in Model Rail is a little optermistic! I’ve not logged it, but having spend 2 hrs tonight on Section D, we can all do the maths, and it don’t come to less than or equal to 20! :giggle:

    Looks good pal!
I’m looking forward to seeing others progress Ian...
Is there only the two of us doing it? :scratchchin:

I think it will be a lot more than 20 hours! So far we seem to be the only people doing this - maybe more will join later.

I am in the middle of a boxfile layout but it is not using the
    Scalescenes boxfile kit.

The track plan for my boxfile plan won a competition last year and i didnt think it would be allowed to enter.

    It looks good.

As they say you need to be in it to win it.

    Hi there.

Well that's another weekend over for me :(. I have pretty much finished structure 'A' - all that remains is the roof which I hope to get to through the week. I have yet to glue this down permanently but that should happen later in the week. The window glazing was done by tracing the panes on transparency with a fine black paint pen (the transparency had previously been printed with Scalescenes window grime at Officeworks). I'm very happy with the results of this and plan to get a couple of other colour paint pens for future projects. I was a bit dubious about the card down pipes at first but I really like the industrial squareness of them so I'm glad I used them.

    Hi Everyone!

I had a bit of time when I got home from work today so decided to bit the bullet and cut out the section from the front of the boxfile. I'm thinking of fitting small hinges to the outside so the panel can fold up and the clip that holds the lid closed can still do it's job. When I come up with a name for the layout I can put on the inside of the panel so it will show when opened. I'm planning to work on the bottom of structure 'D' over the next couple of days.

That is an amazingly neat cut...
Without wanting to pinch ideas from one another, can I ask how you did it?

I’m leaving mine in situe though. But I like your name..
I have a partial name for mine, to be revealed when complete.

Great Work Ian. It’s other folks efforts that keep pushing me with my own. (Even if I’ve progressed a little more than the page your on in the destruction booklet)

Thanks Andy and TimberSurf. The cutting was quite easy as this box file is actually made of card and not MDF as the UK ones seem to be. I just used a square, straight edge and large snap off knife to cut it out and trim things up a little. The downside is that I can't just screw the hinges in - they will have to be fitted with little nuts and bolts instead.

How odd. Mine came from “The Range” and IS MDF.....

Had a right old job cutting it with the small saw.

    Hi again!

Today I managed to do most of the construction of the bottom of structure D. The doors didn't quite line up properly with the tracks so I have to remove about 2mm from the column between them. You will notice a gap at the left front which will be filled with some extra printout of the corrigated iron from structure C. I'm planning to use a modified structure C as a second level above the blue doors but I can't start on this until I finish the top of structure D.

You know, I’m glad we’re all finding odd bits that don’t quite fit... and that’s not a reflection of anything bad on the kit, as other than a few bits that do limit the flexibility, it’s actually quite brilliant!

Oddly, I’ve found for some reason that I’ve not cut the hole big enough on the right, but I still have clearence.

I guess that's the beauty of card kits like this - even if you find things that need adjusting, it's easy to modify.

    Hi everyone!

Well I've had a most productive day today - all the walls are up on the large building of structure D. The biggest pain with this one was all the 2mm card that needs to be cut - every time you look at the instructions you find yourself cutting and gluing lots of layers of 2mm card. I have found out that the card I have is slightly thicker than 2mm so I have had to make some adjustments to the base frame of the hopper (not shown) that goes on top of this building.

I opted not to use the hopper as it doesn’t fit my industrial use.
My only gripe with the kit is having to modify it here, as I was saying earlier on the week. I’d prefer the kit to be full parts with areas shown to remove to fit it as opposed to how it is and already pre cut.

    Hey there!

I had to call into Bunnings tonight and while I was there I picked up 2 small hinges to fit to the front of the boxfile so it can be closed and enable the original catch to still work. It took about 20mins to fit them and I'm quite happy with the results. When I come up with a name I will make a nice sign and fit it to this flap so it looks nice when open.

    Hi Everyone!

It's been a couple of busy weeks here so modelling time has been in rather short supply. That said, I am part way through structure 'B' at present. I can't really go too much further without a trip to Jaycar for some leds and battery holders. I have decided to use individual power supplies for the lights in each building - I can get battery holders with built in power switches that take 2 AAA batteries and most leds work nicely on 3 volts without resistors. This will also remove the need for plugs and sockets between each removable building and the boxfile. Once I have installed the leds and battery holders I can go ahead and finally glue roofs and walls into place. I'll also need to get sorted and order some detail parts from Hattons shortly as some parts I want are very hard to find locally (and Hattons usually only take 1 week to get stuff to Australia).
