Hi Gormo, do you have a dolly? Your panning/slider shots are rock steady!:tophat:
I am definitely going to add birdsong to my list of layout background sounds, are yours on the layout or edited in? Its a really good video

    :gday: Timbersurf,
I have an old rather heavy video tripod with a fluid head for smooth panning. The pan across the stone circle and the airfield was done simply by panning across this area.
The opening shots flying over the church and town were done again with the tripod, however with a selfie stick attached to the tripod head to act as a horizontal boom. The camera was attached to the end of the selfie stick and the whole lot rotated / panned through an arc with a radius of about 600mm approx.
There are dedicated booms for this type of filming available where you actually remove the tripod head and replace it with the boom. I decided to make my own, however I do get some bounce in my version which in the end requires a steady hand as well.
The birdsong and sheep, car noises, station announcements etc. are all part of a soundscape I created some time ago. I burnt the soundscape to a CD and I play that through a small stereo I have in the train room. It runs for about half an hour with variations in it, however it`s duplicated on the CD and therefore the running time without any intervention is about an hour.
I have placed open speakers ( no enclosures ) at either ends of the layout and up and underneath the baseboards. Because the speakers have no enclosures the sound is transmitted in all directions, therefore giving the impression of surround sound. My intention is to add more speakers to the room, most likely it will end up with a speaker in each corner of the room.

    Great video Gormo. :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

The layout is looking awesome. I will have to get over there soon as I believe, (as you said), layouts look better in the flesh !

    Cheers, Gary.

    Yes Gary,,,,that`s true...
And I think I was talking about Jay Dub Yard when I said that..?????:scratchchin:
So folks, for those of you who have only seen pictures of Gary`s layout.......yes it does look as good as it does in the pictures, in fact there is a depth to it created by an understanding of forced perspective and artistic ability that Gary is blessed with.
    You`re welcome anytime Gary.

    :gday: Railway Nuts,
Well folks, off we go on another little project.
A little while back I received a delivery in the post of some scalemodelscenery 4 foot post and rail fencing.

    DSC07392.JPG

The fencing is laser cut from grey card and has a reasonable weathered timber look to it, however really only on one side.....the burnt side. The other side of the card more closely resembles grey card. Not a problem really if you intend to be able to see only one side, especially if you would rather not paint the fence.
If you need to see both sides of the fence, I would suggest painting with acrylics as per the instructions. I would think a fairly easy task, especially if it`s done before the fence is planted in the scenery.....a five minute job...

The instructions are well written and reasonably brief and to the point. This kit is a no brainer really, however it always pays to read through the instructions so as not to stuff it up.

    DSC07393.JPG

I am still in the process of removing the parts. You need to take your time and gently ease the parts away from the grey card sprue. You will notice in the pic below that there are a few little tags to be cut through to cleanly remove the part from the card. Sometimes it requires the card to be turned over to effectively remove the tag.

    DSC07394.JPG

Patience required but the task is straightforward.

    DSC07389.JPG

You can also notice the colour difference here with the back of the card facing up and the removed fence sections showing burnt side up.

Well folks that`s enough strain for the old brain for today..........more as it happens.

    Yes Gary,
I`m still tossing up where I will put it........there are two options.......fence off the stone circle area ( Stonehenge )......or run it along the railway between the signal box and the bridge over the station.
It`s a good little kit, so I think I`ll just order some more and that solves the problem......I can do whatever I want.

Well the MG is a good idea Andy regardless.........but I `ll give the building some more consideration.
In the meantime folks, I have completed a good section of fencing.
The first impression you get with this kit is that it may be a bit frail and susceptible to accidental damage. But once you start adding the layers to the posts it starts to become a different story.

    DSC07425.JPG

As with any card kit, gluing layers starts to increase the strength considerably. At this point though the fence will still flop about the place.
Anyway, I decided to paint the fence as both sides of it will be seen in the location I have chosen for it. I have opted for Burnt Umber and the brand of paint I am using produces a Brown similar to Cadbury`s Milk Chocolate....I have no affiliation or anything to gain from Cadbury`s, but I do like eating their chocolate if they`re reading this.....:avatar::avatar::avatar::avatar:

    DSC07424.JPG

I am using the dry brushing method and it actually doesn`t take very long to do it........10 mins tops !!!!

    DSC07426.JPG

So once the fence was painted it was just a matter of planting it on the layout. I started just above the tunnel near where the ancient standing stones are located.
The glue was still drying when this pic was taken.

    DSC07429.JPG

It was then run down along and next to the rough walking track and makes a right angled turn up the hill towards the monument.

    DSC07428.JPG

Unfortunately, I feel the pics don`t do it justice.....I may be biased but it looks better in the flesh

    DSC07431.JPG

    DSC07430.JPG

The interesting thing about the fencing, is that once the glue dries and it`s bedded in properly, it`s quite a robust structure. I think if you accidentally knock it, it will bend rather than snap, as would be the case with plastic. It should be able to take quite a bit of grief before you have to replace it.
There is a further section of fence to be done at the top of the hill plus a gate which has to be made from adapted fence.
    More as it happens
    :cheers::tophat: Gormo..........Thanks Toto....:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Very nice Gormo. Your fence has just the right feel to it, it seems to effortlessly blend in with the landscaping. I shall have to get some for Little Weldon.

    Thanks Dublo....
As I said earlier......it looks better in real life as opposed to the cruel close up. The normal viewing distance makes it look like it was always there.
The weathered grey appearance that comes standard with the kit, somehow did not look quite right with the colour scheme I have on Great Chesterford. So I think the painted fence is a better fit overall. I guess the grey was too uniform.?.....for my eyes anyway..??

    Thanks Gary,
Finished the last bit a little while ago........a short section of fence and a gate.

    DSC07438.JPG

    Actually it`s an opening gate

    DSC07439.JPG

The gate hinges are made from paper and painted Silver.........it may come in handy for posing figures in the area.
    More as it happens
