The next job was to make up the bogie centre jobby with its rubbing plate.

    IMG_2168.JPG
It was easier to fit the rubbing plate while in the flat, as can be seen there are half etched markings for the rubbing plate to be soldered in the centre, the hole in the centre for the bolt to fit through is slightly over sized so there is slight room for error.

    IMG_2170.JPG
    IMG_2171.JPG
I had to cut some of the solebar away to get the bolster to fit.
    IMG_2172.JPG
The etched bogie sides were next, I soldered the axle bearings in first then folded the ends 90 degrees, a touch of solder then sodered the small bolts in that the bogie ends go over.
    IMG_2175.JPG
The bogie sides are attached with very small rivets, the wheelsets fitted then the bogie ends fitted loosely to give a little movement to the bogie.
I still have to fit the side overlays yet, they might give a little head scratching as there is a spring detail that fits behind the overlay without a recess to accomodate it. We shall see.

Well at the moment I'm really chuffed with how it is looking. Hopefully I will get the overlays on tomorrow.

    Thanks for looking.

    Pete.

I like that bogie assembly ... what a difference it makes when the body gets its wheels :tophat:

Thanks Paul, yes it definitely makes a big difference to the build. They are such a doddle to build, though I could have done with a small nut driver at times.
The earlier kits came with white metal bogie side overlays but they are now resin which come with their own difficulties. I will overcome though!!

    Cheer's, Pete.

Always been fascinated by how people achieve the wood grain on teak coach sides although I won't be doing any for myself as it's not my region. One way which I think might show some promise can be found on the RB Products store. Go to www.radubstore.com and go to tools and then select paintmasks & stencils. Under that heading you will find 4 etched stencils for producing wood grain using an airbrush. Put the etch over the area to be sprayed and mask off the surrounding area and spray the grain onto the base coat. Could also be used for painting un painted replacement planks on a wagon.

Its always a bit of a milestone when a significant aspect of any build is reached, like its a bit of a buzz to get onto the last leg.:tophat:

Hello Rob, I have some of his scribing and sanding tools and found them very good. I just make light passes with the scribing tools and they have lasted pretty well seeing that they are only etched material. The etched sanding blades are very usefull for getting into odd corners. I use a fair few of the resin rivet and nut and bolt sets from www.plusmodel.cz aswell. There are a lot of very usefull items out there for military and aero modellers, just need more time to search them out.

Got the overlays fitted, just a little fettleing to do to them. Overall a very good product.
A bit of careful measuring got the holes drilled for the axle bearings, checking regularly to make sure I didn't break through the front of the axle box.
Any way here is a pic of them.

Still plenty to do but I'm getting there.

It's been an age since last doing anything on this coach but I have managed to get into the shed again after a much needed tidy up!
Anyway, I have got the seats painted and glued in, the coach partitions slide in between the seat backs so I can remove the upper body for detailing.
    IMG_2287.JPG
I have also painted the bogies and wheels, one bogie finished the other to be reassembled.

In the foreground of the last photo is my scratch build for the queen posts for the underframe, each is a pair that I will cut to length and fit once they've hardened off.

Thats it for now. Cheer's, Pete.

Nice work Pete and don't freeze up in the shed... I've migrated indoors as it is way to cold in the workshop today.

Managed to get back in the shed and make a fresh start on the coach under frame. The Queen posts I was making turned out badly, drilling the ends for the bar and the drill snagged and broke them on both ends . So, it was back to the drawing board and while contemplating my navel I decided to make them from brass. I took 4 6BA cheese head screws and ran a nut to the underside of the head and soldered them. Next I put them in my drill and rounded them off with files and emerycloth.

    IMG_2293.JPG
Glued in place with two part epoxy I moved on to the battery boxes.

Not really to scale but I'm happy with the end result, once they have dried I will give them a coat of paint and hopefully they will look better.

    Cheer's, Pete.

Thanks Yorky . I have painted the underside and solebars, the next job I think is fitting the buffers and coupling hooks. I had a go at forming the roof from Plasticard by putting some into a tube, pouring some boiling water leaving it for 5 minutes then putting cold water in to fix its shape. Always worked before but this time it just sprang back flat :facepalm:.
I will post up couple of photos next time I go in the shed.

    Pete.

At last the hol's are over and I can get back into the shed again!
As promised a couple of photos of the painted under side of the coach, quite pleased with the finish if I say so myself :giggle:.
    IMG_2306.JPG
    IMG_2307.JPG
And lastly the buffers and coupling hooks, buffers super glued in place but the hooks just loose fitted until after painting.
    IMG_2308.JPG
And thats all for the time being, I will hopefully get back to it earlier in the week. I've got some sorting out do as I get my official old age pension started monday, all kind of banging my head against the wall starts then .

    Cheer's, Pete.

Super job and progress there Pete, the teak finish looks the biz too. :tophat::tophat::tophat: I was two years away from getting my pension but now it looks like nearer four what with the changes. So does the banging of heads mean you have fiscal decisions to make ? I can offer free advice to you on which loco kits not to buy if that helps. :avatar:

Thanks for the generous offer Paul, its the council I'm struggling with. You think rivet counters are a PITA, the jobsworths at Chesterfield are in a league of their own. I went there before Christmas for advice on how the changes would affect me and ask what I needed to do. They never mentioned the hoops I now need to jump through

    Cheer's, Pete.
