I saw this very sorry looking partly built brake tender for sale and took pity on it. When it arrived from Hattons for the princely sum of £12 ! I wasn’t expecting anything to flash. To my surprise all the required items other than some hand rail wire were included, more investigation turned up two broken handbrake wheels and no decals.
The main issue is that there is a huge amount of glue spilt on the body work. So it will require a re paint.
Checking the manufacturers web page for the kit at :- http://www.gjhplant.co.uk/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=55&vmcchk=1&Itemid=55

Showed that decals nor wheel sets were included in the kit. The kit is priced at £41 plus £12 for the wheels so my investment in this little project looks good.

All the instructions and history are included as well

The kit is resin with white metal and brass detailing items.

First job was to see if I could “pick” the spilt glue off the model with little to no damage......there goes that pink pig again, flying over head..... :avatar:

Out with the wet and dry sanding papers.....

End result after a few minutes work. Glue gone, paintwork nice and flat. New brass handrails bent and positioned, not glued in yet, and a quick rummage in my spares box found two suitable white metal replacement brake handles.

    Coffee time !

Now that’s a good pick up Kim
Always satisfying to breath new life into something that’s been abandoned.

I have one in 4mm scale, built from a "Gemini" kit (I gather the business has closed with retirement of the proprietor). It's white metal and quite a heavy little beast, but it runs very nicely.

Yep just can’t help myself, not really my modelling era, but I do have a class 37 to put with it for a run when finished.

That’s looks very nice Keith. I did the same kit many moons ago but never got to paint it, so it was sold off with my other oo gauge items when I moved up a scale.
Is it to be weathered or operated in pristine condition ?

I have quite a number of loco's and various rolling stock that all needs to be weathered, trouble is, I just keep building and painting more but just don't seem to get around to the weathering of them. Must make an effort soon!:giggle:

After rubbing down the model and then spraying an undercoat I used a rattle can to spray the model, but the end result was not to good. Most of the panel lines disappeared, and looking at photos of the real thing the panel lines are very much in evidence. So using an Olaf scribing knife I re did the panel line then repeated the painting process. Much better result. It’s sprayed with a gloss finish ready for all the transfers which I hope should arrive this week from Fox Transfers. In the mean time the hand rails and brake wheels need painting white and the chassis needs cleaning up......

    Kim
