Just a bit more nature added around the cess drain to add depth. Note also how the grass embankment doesn't extend up to the sleeper ends, this area is called the six foot cess because six feet two inches is the absolute minimum safety clearance when trackside. The dark cinder edging below the ballast shoulder represents an ash top dressing for the trackbed formation, this material also aids drainage and surface water discharge. Altogether I feel happy with this scene now and think it shows a nicely balanced overhead view, the 8 x 4 MDF moisture sheet reared up against the workbench is earmarked for my next scenic diorama bridge project.

And a few hidden details dotted around the place like a half burried old sleeper being swallowed up in the undergrowth... this should keep Toto amused for ages looking for all the bits like this. :avatar:

Finally the fishplates are now added ready for track painting and weathering this week. The cap stone on the far plinth still needs a bit more attention as its a little low compared to the rest.

Looks great so far. I look forward to the finished article. Like someone said when you posted a photo else where, you do a double take to see if it’s real.

Thanks Mr S for your kind comments... this one is nearly home and dry... not much more to do on it now and then it will soon be hosting loco builds as the photographic backdrop. I'd best start planning the next one. :scratchchin:

Here's a quote from a gent in Glasgow commenting on the scenic diorama in Model Railway Realism yesterday:-

*My feet feel wet. This is so realistic, and all my senses are engaged! *

So with a bit of luck this scene is already doing what it was intended for.

I think the background trees and the angle helped also:thumbs:

The background trees in the picture are the boundary hedgerow and that tree at the top of the yard behind where the bus is parked. I did offer to give this tree to Toto to form part of his scenic backdrop but he declined on the grounds that Dundee already had enough to carry to shows. :avatar::avatar::avatar:

A bit more of an update... I've started putting up the line wires on the pole route, the first one is fixed and can just be made out in front of the workshop shelves, the poles are a scale distance of 65 yards apart and have now been painted in a creosote colour.

The other embankment now has vegetation and I've added a layer of Water Ripples over the river which seems to work much better than Mod Podge which turned cloudy everytime I sprayed water onto the trackbed whilst gluing the ballast down.

The rails have been given a base coat of rust to my own recipe, I mixed equal parts of Raw Umber, Burnt Umber and Raw Sienna with a half part of Ultramarine. This will act as the base hue for when I airbrush over with the finishing top colours which will tone down the sleepers and define detail in the rail chairs and fishplates.

No this one is Toto's now, I'll wire it up so he can demo loco's on it but I'm going to start a new multi part scenic show very soon... that one will be on the public show circuit because I've now learnt what to do and what not to do when building these things.

Thanks Toto for the kind comment... now it needs to earn its corn bringing punters in at shows to buy Highlander Models products. I know if I saw a loco built from a good kit and displayed on a SuperReal backdrop diorama I'd probably want to buy a kit or two because I'd think if they've take time out to put detail in the diorama then they have taken the time to think the build process of the kits through. Lets hope so anyway.
