Very interesting Gary, thank you. Not what I'm looking for this time, but definitely filed away for future reference. Can anyone recommend a UK company to do the printing? I dug out my Bachmann Red Stripe Class 37 last night. Will definitely need some tweaks including new buffers. Matt
Dangerously close to making progress here! The dummy siding with the brake van may be shortened in length to balance things out a bit. Matt
Hi all, Bit of an experiment in representing a concrete building. Based on a photo taken at Drinnick Mill with the dimensions slightly tweaked to suit my needs. Semi successful I'd say! Matt
This does looks good. I think you will have to tell us your secret of modelling concrete Matt ! I have my suspicions (talc ?) but I'll let you elaborate... Cheers, Gary.
Now finished with intentionally wonky roof and rickety doors! Next, painting and weathering. Might take a while because I've been distracted by a non railway modelling project. Matt
First coat of paint on the doors - to be weathered and worn later. Also finished off the ridge of the roof. I also obtained a Bachmann Class 08 in Rail Blue today (ironically to replace one I sold a couple of months ago!) Matt
And the start of some worn, peeling doors: I used AK's Worn Effects for this, I can never get it to work how I want hence the different colour blue "corrections" that are visible. Matt
The wall effect resembles what's known in the UK as a "Tyrolean finish" applied as a render first, then a top coat using a hand cranked gadget that just 'flings' the mix onto the wall in a random fashion. Did you do the models finish by stippling with a stiff brush perhaps? Keith.
Those hand cranked dispensers were always hard work to use, very heavy when full and hand held gave a strain on the wrists, the knack was always to get an even coverage which didn't show patchy and inconsistent. Not the nicest of jobs on a windy day standing on scaffolding either... talk about getting concrete boots.
Thanks for the kind words everyone! Some unexpected free time today has resulted in almost completion: Matt
Thank you so much for the kind comments, it's much appreciated! I might fiddle with the roof a little bit more, but otherwise I'm calling this done! Matt
Funny you should mention that - I've been considering adding them but the original building that this is based on doesn't have any form of guttering so I'll probably steer clear too. Matt
I must be mad. I've decided to replace the moulded grab rails with 0.33 wire. I really don't like the ones the model comes with, they're just a bit too overscale for my liking. 2 down, 15 to go! I'm also planning on replacing the springs, buffers and steps, plus adding a representation of some of the pipework that's visible under the bufferbeams. I'll also have to repaint or at least weather it too...long term project I think! Matt
