    G`day Folks,
I have just recently returned from a trip south and thought some of you may be interested in some pics of Goulburn station and nearby buildings.

Gormo, Did you manage a trip to the roundhouse while there?
Its a treasure trove of modelling subjects.

Yes Toto.........it`s beautifully kept and preserved.
The railway, at it`s peak, which I imagine was during steam days, employed 1/4 of the population of Goulburn.
Those days are gone, where a bloke of average intelligence could get a job on the railways and have secure employment for his working life.
Goulburn is a reminder of days gone by and a different way of life.

    Sure did Graeme,
That will be in another thread shortly..............we got a personal tour with a terrific gentleman there, who was a retired engine driver, both steam and diesel.
He shared stories of day to day life on the railway.

Towns and cities in country NSW are mostly very well kept, but Goulburn is one of the cleanest and tidiest. It impresses me every time we stop there, which we often do either going to or returning from Canberra. You rarely see any rubbish lying around and there probably is some somewhere, but I've never seen any graffiti. Here are a few views of the city centre:

I agree with you about Goulburn. It is a very nice place to visit. Quite tranquil too.

Or, for a bit of variety, going backwards in time, here's a photo my father took of Auburn Street back in 1958, only a few months after we arrived in Australia (the Mark VIII Hillman Minx in the middle of the photo was our car at the time, replaced a couple of years later by a Series II Minx):

If you removed the cars from the pictures it would be hard to notice any difference in the city itself.

Takes me back. Riding and driving between Canberra and Sydney for work and on long weekends in the 70's.
Had a few warm cuppas at a Greek cafe in the main street when I rode up from Canberra to see what was in the rail yard of interest on the weekend.

Great thread - I spent some time at the museum and station some ten years ago and it does not look like much has changed.

Did you stop for a pie at Bryants ?

I'd have to agree that it is a clean town, but can be very, very hot and dry in summer and damn cold in winter...

Did you get a pic of the old railway bridge on the Crookwell Branch over the Wollondilly River ?? Always makes a nice photo !!

    Cheers, Gary.

No pictures of the railway bridge and no pies at Bryants.
Although I`ve done a number of trips to Crookwell........my father-in-law used to live there years ago.
We used to do the round trip in a day from Sydney.

I had a pie from Bryants on the way down to Canberra. Not in their cafe though - we had our lunch in Belmore Park.
