Welcome to the forum from a rather damp East Midlands. I also have a loft layout, and I'd suggest if you haven't already planned for a Velux or similar roof window, then it's a good idea to consider one if it's feasible, together with insulation, as without it you'll not want to venture up there in winter! Take your time and think it through and you'll be comfortable up there. Also if you can make your access hatch large enough to get decent sized sheets of board up there, it'll make life easier when you come to start building the layout boards. Keith.
