Some photos of Merchant Navy Class, British Railways number 35006. These were taken at the Gloucester Warwickshire Railway a few months back.

I got to go on the footplate with my Son, which was a great experience and allowed me to take some great cab photos.

    Andrew.

The driver enjoying his pastie he warmed up on the shelf above the firebox, great to see these traditions still going strong.

A picture of me with my Son on the footplate.

    Have a great evening all.

    Andrew.

Excellent shots Andrew, I hadn't realised that they had finally finished P&O and got her steaming. I am not a Southern Modeller by any means but I would quite like to build one as P&O because we have travelled a good bit of the world on P&O ships.

One of these fine days if MOK reintroduce their rebuilt Merchant Navy Kit I may bite the bullet and get one.

Yeah, a lovely loco. Would be great to see a good O gauge kit build in the future.

Great pics Andrew so thanks for sharing.

Rob I'm not particularly a Southern modeller either but like yourself I'd be up to do a Merchant Navy as the last one I saw on the real railway was Elder Demster Lines in Waterloo station along with a Caprotti Five in 1967. I'll just have to wait for the Transport Age kit to be reworked by Scorpio as "cab droop" was an issue with the original Transport Age offering.

Hmm... apparently someone built a Jim Harris Merchant Navy presumably from the original Acorn or Transport Age kit range and commented that they had to pack the cab up because it drooped on the mainframe, no doubt this harks back to the days of anything goes and a pencil. In fairness I do believe that Pat Ennis has had the kit reworked now so presumably this issue has been dealt with, however what tickles me Rob is that every so often a JH Merchant Navy kit pops up on the bay and gets sold for silly money. About six months ago one went for nearly £100 more than the current reworked version which does actually have quite a lot of lost wax replacement castings included, some folk have no idea.

Glad you like the photos.... Plenty more where they came from.

I'm a keen amateur photographer, particularly of planes, trains & automobiles. I'll share more of my efforts over time. I'll put some of my motorsport & military aeroplane photos in the 'other stuff' forum.

It still staggers me what some people will pay for things on eBay yet when I list things they seem to struggle to get anywhere near what I have in them let alone something for building them etc.

I know what you mean Rob... mark your next sales up as "extremely rare" or "attic find" or even " from late grandad's collection he kept in a shed"... it should sell then
