Not wanting to be picky, but are the mineral wagons a little late for LMS livery, more BR period.
    Loving the 4F though.

Yes , but I was only in the UK for a few weeks in 79 Andy so I am not offended by incongruities that might disturb the sleep of others. :>)

Thanks Chris, just showing my railway is not xenophobic.

    cheers
    Bob

My FO carriages are slowly coming together. Underframes are being made from scrap ply, balsa and pop sticks.

I got to visit AMRA Qld last saturday on the back of travelling up there for a family function.
The welcome provided by the members was first class. It made the visit even more special.

I took along my BPRC Lima 4F to try those wheels across the pointwork of the garden railway layout. The loco handled the gaps at the frogs without derailing but of course looked out of place amongst the large scale stock present. I also took along my X200 for show and tell, although being finescale and DCC chipped it could not be run.

    cheers

    Hey Bob,

I think I found a bag of buffer castings for these. They're non-working. I think they were originally O-Aust parts.

Hi Martin, are they the regular bottle buffers or the short ones needed for close coupled sets.
    Perhaps post a pic.
    cheers

One of the FO's is now at the basic assembly stage, I have used some thin long pop sticks to provide the guttering similar to the one roof that was complete on arrival.

Bob what a great looking garden railway you have built, I have just caught up reading your thread. Can I say your modelling skills are just brilliant.
I like the choice of locos and rolling stock you have available to run.

    Many thanks Mark.
My modelling is what would be called "stand way off scale" in aero modeller terms. :>)
While I would like everything to be accurately detailed, for outdoor use the level of finish is sufficient for me.
Technically the layout is based in the 60's transition era but some items I have stretch that from the 1890's to the 1990's :>)
I also have a liking for British railways, particularly the LMS, LNER and BR transition era. So now I can have the occasional running session using mainly Lima items I have been able to buy at a price suited to my wallet.
    cheers

    Bob,

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. They're the short ones. Your work looks great. You've got more patience than I do. I did one lot of windows on a body casting and thought I'd go mad if I had to do all three!

Carriage sets are very much a case of endless repetition.
I have actually four to do and I need to scratchbuild the missing one first.
Then comes the sleeper to finish off my mail train.
I have promised myself to get all this out of the way before starting anything else.... hmm! . :>)

Two have now got their glass, working on third at the moment.

Scratch building coaches is hugely satisfying. But keeping up the momentum is something I struggle with :facepalm:

They look amazing mate, can't wait to see the next one

    Cheer's, Pete.

I often find myself short of the will power Pete. Happens to us all I suspect.

These three are nearly at the lining stage but I don't have the decals yet.

Some new wheels for the Lima originals to bring them up to the height of the Southern modified ones at some point but I now have enough for a British running session.

The FO's are in need of a signwriter and will be right to go.

Sat down to work out plans for a KA Tramcar. Turns out I can draw up the CAD for laser-cut wood faster than I can I cut wood or styrene to do the same job.

I've thought about doing another style of end-platform carriage in laser-cut plywood. Got any particular requests?

Here is revision 14 of my KA carriage artwork. I'm onto revision 16 now and there is another sheet of 2.5mm basswood for the bufferbeams and underframe components.

Hi Marty, that looks very good. Thanks for the offer but I have a scan and cut machine that I am planning to use for my cardboard HFO.
Yours should be very nice, (probably nicer than mine). :>)
I'm guessing those who like to buy kits will be interested, any idea on pricing?
    cheers

re: pricing - there is a bloke in Queensland going to do up a quote for me. He has various thicknesses in stock and he understands kit design well. He has also offered to cut any materials that I might want to order in. The big one is 2.5mm basswood for bufferbeams and timber underframe members.

Now I just need to find someone who does brass etching for the handful of components that will require it.

Those FO carriages should be quite sturdy. The bodies are fibreglass, and when I bought them I was told that they came from patterns/moulds made by Ron Fox in the 1970s or 1980s.

Good luck with your project Martin.
My purchase of those old Ron Fox mouldings was a one off. I supported Ron by buying his urethane re-runs a few years ago but they went pear shaped in the sun and now live happily under a house.
I prefer to build my own stuff. I just look to the trade for wheels, W irons, bogies and some small detail castings.
When I first started with HO back in the 70's I cast my own underframes at first. I soon decided it was better to let the trade do the important working bits :>)
    cheers
