Question without notice, I have recently purchased the Hornby Rolling Road R8211 with a couple of extra rollers R8212, my questions are “which is something I should have thought about before I purchased the item”. Is can you use this item to tune DDC locomotives.

    And

I noticed somewhere that you can use the DC concept rollers on the track section to tune the small locos. Has anybody done this and what success did you have. My intention is to connect to my SPROG 3, has any body done this.

I have the newest version of the Rolling road,

Works just the same as a programming track.

Yep, just connect wires from your DCC controller to the terminals on the rolling road.

    Cheers, Gary.

after spending a significant amount of time, on the SPROG 3 and Hornby Rolling Road, its now working, I have just finished fine tuning my first Locomotive with the Help of two mates Chris Lord and Mike McHugh.

The SPROG 3 is a sound investment, once set up its easy to use though JRMI. However there is an issue that needs to be taken into account when connecting to the Hornby Rolling Road care must be taken in the connecting the wire polarity to the Rolling Road so I suggest a multi meter is used to check the polarity. Once you have connected the wires to the SPROG 3 it very secure. On the down side the wires that are connected to the Rolling Road are very simple and weak and have a tendency to pop out. The construction of the Hornby Rolling Road is very good, but connection point this "short cut" does let the product down, I'll be changing it out with a "Choco block" and hard wiring it in.

Tuning: The rollers are as good as the DC Concepts product, the track bed is solid, although for the bigger steam locomotives you need a extra set of rollers. You also may have difficulty in tuning your Diesels as the Hornby product doesn't account for the size or wheel arrangement.

I have been under instruction from Chris, in tuning my Locomotives and so far 4 have been set up. My last attempt was the new Hornby Terrier with the Hornby Chip R7150-01-284 this was a test for Chris and I very difficult to program. I then attempted a the Hornby War Department R&H 48DS 0-4-0 Army 802 R3706, this was easier with the Guagemaster DCC93 Ruby. So from my point of view, if you are a novice in the set up "arena" give the Hornby chip a miss and use the Guagemaster DCC93 Ruby Six Pin. The Ruby is also smaller. I have just tried to up load some photos but my system keeps error coding I'll try latter.

    Cheers Richard

? but there are only two wires? They simply plug in? Did I miss something?
I wonder if you may have a faulty one if your wires drop out as mine is quite secure.

that’s odd? I’ve been using one for diesels for the last 18 years. Have you adjusted the spacings on the saddles yo carry the bogie wheels? I’ve done class 20’s to peaks, 37’s to 66’s. Never had an issue.... other than the sprog failing and having to go back to Mr Crossland for repair.. but then mines a sprog 1 which was an open circuit board.
Give the Hornby rolling road some time, it’s a great tool.
One option is to swap out the track bed section and fit extra saddles so it’s a full rolling road (not that I’ve done that yet, maybe one day)
