I have finally got back into modeling mode and I'm looking to start on my engine shed building as part of a diorama / modular layout board.

The shed .... who's manufacturer escapes me ( I'll reconfirm that later ) is built from ply from memory. I'm looking for a glue which will give a balance of strong / timely bonding but with as little residue as possible from over spills etc.

    Opinions please.

I have a mixture of lotions and potions that I have used over the past so the chances are I will have anything suggested. Really just trying to get my head back into it after my latest absence.

    Cheers

    Toto

    G`day Toto,
If it`s Ply or MDF.......I would use just PVA........obviously you would have to support / clamp parts until the glue goes off. The PVA dries clear and any spills or over flow or oozing out of the joints can be cleaned off with a rag or Q Tip or tooth pick whilst it is still wet.
Any minor blemishes will be covered with paint

    Ok,

I thought PVA would be up there with the suggestions. Its tried and proven. My only experience with it is it can leave a film on some materials which paint may not take too. However, this is a starting point.

I have another stuff ( the name escapes me at the moment ) but I'm sure you will know it. I'll take it out of the sher next time I'm in and post it up. Just to get an opinion again.

    Great stuff.

As the Maestro suggests PVA, but you could always use a little hot glue to tack them in place while the PVA dries.

I have used many types / brands, and have found the tacky glues useful, also Titebond Original Wood Glue I have found very good, and sands easily.

Hi Toto as a precaution against pva leaving a film, you could put masking tape on the edges to be painted then peel it off when the glue has dried :scratchchin:

Some glues will 'creep' under the edges of masking tape though so it'd need to be well stuck down to hopefully prevent this.

    Hi Toto,
If it helps we use Evo-Stick Wood Adhesive for indoor and outdoor use it dries clear and very strong when dry. I have built my carriage shed and have used the above glue. Can send a photo of either if it helps you.
    Regards,
    Gloria.

    Good evening York Paul,
Thank you ever so much. My carriage shed isn't completed as yet, as I have made some alterations to it. Jakesdad has seen photos of of it, as I said mentioned to him it's scratched built and built on my lap which my partner couldn't believe its not perfect as its made out odd bits of wood and lollipop sticks.
    Regards,
    Gloria.

    Hi Gormo,
Thank you ever so much. I am looking at Windows for the carriage shed and as we have a 3d printer I might print them as there are some good designs that would be ideal. Will let you know on that one.
    Regards,
    Gloria.
