    Hi all,

First seen on page 3 of this thread, my Lowfit has made a comeback! Still a work in progress, but I'm pleased with how it's going.

The bogie is an old Lima one with some questionable details added from plastic sheet and other odds and ends. I saw pics on the Bartlett site and, despite it being a novelty item, knew I wanted one!

Still quite a bit left to do.

Matt you scored top marks again on the weathering front... beautiful workmanship. :tophat::cheers: Please don't think I'm nit picking here but Lowfit wagons were always painted bauxite because they were a low fitted wagon, so grey is not strictly correct if you are modeling it in BR ownership. However you could always argue this wagon had been sold into private ownership as an internal user vehicle on a steel works and was carrying scrap around to the fragmenter plant. :scratchchin::thumbup::tophat:

I'm always grateful for your advice Paul, so no need to worry about nit picking!

I've used this and this photo as inspiration and it looks grey (to me anyway) but I'm prepared to be proven wrong and, well, I was bored of bauxite having just painted the Pipe wagon!

Still more work to do before it's finished.

May actually be green (faded) and not grey... but like yourself, happy to be corrected... not very obvious is it?

Ah yes... these lowfits have been cascaded from common user status, they have been declassified Lowfit and now carry the ADB number prefix as being in the ME pool (maintenance engineer), the first one appears to be painted in Engineers Drab Olive Green which has become badly faded through sunlight and the second one (another ADB engineers declassified wagon) is painted Rail Grey using paint from the pre sectorisation period when rolling stock carried the double arrow Railfreight livery with Rail Red side stripe.

Nice... you could definitely have this one as a departmental wagon... it would be something quite different and a talking point too.:tophat::tophat::tophat::tophat:

    Thanks all,

    Now with markings:

    IMG_20200208_204408.jpg

I know these aren't strictly correct but I can accept the errors. They've been cobbled together from a range of random sheets and satisfy me.

It's been pointed out to me elsewhere that there are a number of issues with the Lima bogie. I already knew this but again, am not looking for a 100% accurate model, just a representation.

Final painting and weathering next on the list.

Lovely finish Matt, despite what may or may not be correct with the Lima product my thoughts are that the Lowfit looks the part and is magnificently finished so the pleasure you derived making this outweighs any manufacturers inaccuracies, after all its your work and you like it ... that's all that matters really... and of course you have an admiring following here as well.:tophat::tophat::thumbs:

    Thanks Paul,

Now completed - bogie attached using fuse wire to represent rope, as per prototype photos.

Errors and compromises aside, a fun project and something a bit different!

As Andy says, brilliant mate. I like the use of fuse wire for roping down, very effective :tophat::tophat:

    Hi all,

Latest project off the workbench is this old Parkside 16t mineral wagon. Originally built and painted about 10 years ago. Recently unearthed, paint stripped, damage repaired and then repainted and weathered.

    IMG_20200621_205608_215.jpg

I'm trying to work through some wagons at the moment to reduce the stash.
