Whilst on holiday and visiting various 'Heritage Railways', since many have secondhand books on sale they're often worth a look, and my recent trip has proved fruitful, four "Southern" books full of photo's, very useful for detailing etc, the four cost a total of well under a 'tenner'.......Result! I did a similar thing whilst on holiday last week. I picked up a nice set of books at York Railway Museum for £3 each. I thought that was a bargain, until I went to a running day at the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway based at Ludborough, between Louth and Cleethorpes. Half the shop was given over to the sale of second hand books, for a mere £1 each! All in all, well worth a visit.
It's a great line, but suffers somewhat from being a bit 'out of the way'. They have no shortage of ambition, though, and are looking to reinstate the line all the way to the outskirts of Louth. They own all the track bed, it just needs a ton of money to get the track back down... Oh, and the odd £250k for a level crossing they'll need for each classified road that they have to cross. Ironically, the track at each crossing is still there, under the tarmac! I really hope they do it. Edited to add: they have running days every Sunday and Wednesday during August, but obviously check their website for details.
