Hello all Little Weldon's Good's Yard moves on further with its first assignment of freight. Twenty one days ago I was making the mould for the Boundary wall, the yard has certainly changed very quickly.
Hello all I've slowed down on working on Little Weldon at the moment. I think I may have developed a design for the four yard lights I want but after a flurry of activity over the last few weeks I seem to be having a break. I am still modelling, lurking at the back of the shelf I found an Airfix kit of the Tardis with David Tennant's Doctor and Martha Jones. It says on the box that the Tardis is 24cm tall with sound and lights. As I haven't done this for a while here are the latest Black and Whites. I find this helps me to assess tonal values of the layout, making sure that nothing leaps out from the whole.
Very impressive. You've made an excellent job of the cobble stones. Very neat. Thanks for sharing. Toto
Hello all Thank you very much for your kind words regarding Little Weldon, it is much appreciated. I've had a loss of Mojo over the last few weeks but it is starting to return. Bo Bo has helped out here by his discovery of the charms of Tinplate. Yesterday the postman delivered one of Scalecast's latest moulds, this has really got me inspired once again. So much so I had to produce a casting straight away. Here we have the very elegant Georgian Shop front.
Nice moulding and castings Dublo. I’m pleased I have helped to get your mojo back. I’m pleased to have found the tinplate side of railway modeling which appeals to me very much.
After Dublo posted his night time photos of Little Weldon, I bought a selection of lights (after looking at all sorts of products I ended up buying some from Kyte's Lights) but I haven't done anything with them yet.
Hello all I am pleased that photos of Little Weldon have inspired you both. Welcome to the world of Tinplate T.Hatt. Welcome to the world of illuminated Tinplate Wolsley, a while ago you mentioned lit Semaphore signals. I have since found out that Trix Twin manufactured some, I have yet to find one at a reasonable price so I can't comment any further. I have now removed the Superquick Goods Shed and replaced it with the Ratio Cattle Dock. This will enable me to run a greater variety of trains with both the Cattle Trucks and the Horse Boxes.
Hello all The postman delivered a small package today. Inside was this good condition little Wardie Master Models British Railways Southern Time table. The model is cast White Metal and dates from the 1950's, a little more research needed to pin down the date. It does look rather nice standing on Little Weldons down Platform.
Hello all A couple of firsts for Little Weldon. I have been after an 0-6-0 tank engine for a spot of shunting and an occasional mainline run for quite a while. Meccano Limited did not produce one, they made a model of the Southern R1 but two rail only, so a conversion is needed. But this little chap came along a DJH kit of a LNER J50 built for 3-rail running. I now have my first non Dublo locomotive and my first kit built on Little Weldon.
Hello all Today the postman delivered another first for Little Weldon. A boxed pair of Trix Twin Illuminated Home Bracket Signals. These models are contemporary with Dublo. There is a separate Baseplate with the Signals that holds the Bulb and the power connections, these were designed to clip onto TTR track so therefore are not compatible with Dublo. The Signal base then clips onto these baseplates. The posts of the Signals appear to be a type of clear plastic. The signals themselves are manually operated. My original thoughts were to adapt the baseplate for my use but after having given it some thought I have decided to surface mount 5mm LED's to the baseboard and then cover with the signal's. Some piccies just temporarily wired to a 9volt battery.
Hello Yesterday the postman delivered another small package within was this lovely cast metal Horse and Cart. This model is part of the OO gauge range from Britains called the Lilliput Series. This range was quite extensive featuring models of Road Vehicles, Railway Staff, Passengers, Farm Workers and Animals, Military personnel and other accessories such as Post boxes. I have only just discovered these lovely models and shall certainly be looking for more.
Hello all Recently I have been looking at other manufacturers ranges in order to supplement the Hornby Dublo. With the current on going illumination works of Little Weldon I have been paying attention to Trix Twin, I now have several lit signals awaiting installation. I am also looking to the Yard Lighting system. I have how ever found these two lovely Tin plate Pullman Cars with internal lighting they will look really nice behind the Canadian Pacific Duchess with its working Head Light.
Hello all Now that a lot of the harvesting has taken place on the Allotment its a case of starting to get it ready for the winter. My thoughts are returning back to Little Weldon over the last few months I have been purchasing a number of items in preperation for the upcoming cold months. Yesterday I actually managed to get to the back of the operating well, the first time for a good number of months, I have been storing a lifetimes collection of War games miniatures the only space available in the house was of course in the Railway Room. Number one task is going to have to be the tidying of the wiring, it looks like the cat has gone crazy with several colours of crazy string. Secondly I have acquired a large number "new" trees and foliage, so an update of this aspect is on the cards. I have also now found a suitable low speed motor for the Airfix Windmill The continuation of Little Weldons ongoing illumination programe ( now with added Semaphore Signals ). In between times I hope to have some running sessions too. A few of the summers photos in Black and White for the vintage look.
I’ve never seen a 3 rail layout look so good. (Even in the B&W pics, which are excellent.) it just looks like it’s a southern region 3 rail or underground. really really impressed!
Hello all Another two new arrivals to have made their way to Little Weldon. Firstly a very nice boxed example of a Wardie Master Models Water Crane. Secondly another N2 this particular example is re-painted and bearing the legend British Railways in full upon the tanks. Although not a livery produced by Meccano the price was right and a fantastic runner too.
Hello all The removable section across the doorway is in place, the rails have been cleaned. Controllers plugged in, Sir Nigel on a five coach train here we go. Starting to pick up a little speed through Little Weldon station passes the TPO section. Full STOP..... no... what has happened has someone pulled the cord. Removed the stalled train bring on the emergency N2 exactly the same thing. OK not the engine got to be the track, how can a piece of rail that has been perfectly fine for the last two and a half years suddenly create a short circuit that affects a quarter of the up line. Eventually the fault was traced to half straight just outside of Weldon Station. The down line also had an attack of Gremlins too with random uncouplings when ever my attention was elsewhere. What was going to be a nice relaxing afternoon watching the trains go by turned out to be very frustrating. Time to sit down with a nice relaxing cold beer.
Hello all Well I'm really glad I decided not to take up Fishing. After having spent all of yesterday under the layout sorting out where does all the rubbish come from. Moving a chest of drawers and installing a new bookcase in its place, I now have a nice new home for my collection of Terry Pratchett 1st editions. This afternoon I thought I would have a running session and hey presto it all ran like a dream. My faith has been restored in the products of Meccano Ltd. Whilst rummaging around yesterday I found a whole forest of forgotten trees, shrubs and other assorted flora. So a new wave of planting is on the cards. After having a few days off at the start of the week we visited Corfe Castle oh boy how inspiring. I now have the urge to expand Weldon Castle. At the moment my thoughts are turning towards a removable scenic section within the operating well. A few of this summers Little Weldon photos.
