I have the weekly newsletter from Hattons (along with several others) and the last had what I consider a useful reference 'Bookzine' for those of us who build kits. It contains over 400 pics of classes of steam loco's showing the liveries, so handy to know when you get around to applying finishing liveries. It's certainly worth the £7.99 price (+P&P.), but........
......and here's the 'but', If you are perhaps a "Tree Hugger" or care about the Planet, maybe you ought to look to buy it locally rather than from Hattons, as this is what it comes in! Something of a 'packaging overkill' perhaps! This isn't the first time I've had this daft 'over the top' packaging from Hattons, a delivery of one pack of 10 No 5 Kadee's was sent in the same size box, maybe they think economies of scale boxwise is sensible but when many suppliers would send this 'bookzine' in a padded Jiffy bag or even just an envelope, this borders on the ridiculous. I do my bit regarding recycling, but this is absolutely crackers in my opinion. Incidentally, a second 'Bookzine' is available covering the later years of diesel/electric operations, same price. Keith.
Looks like a good reference book Keith but as you say ... the packaging is shocking. Perhaps some more info with regards to the publisher including the ISBN no would let folks buy from a more environmentally friendly source. I'd be interested. Cheers Toto
For anyone interested .... look this up at " Key Publishing " same price and have PayPal if you want to use it. If not ... other options available. Toto
Hi Keith, crazy.....one size fits all, springs to mind.....they did send me a “pre loved “ Dapol o gauge wagon in the same sized box , all the way to WA , but I think you win the award for “packaging social distancing”, probably a good job you didn’t order two copies !
