I know this build should have been completed but I have to wait till the wheels arrive. My next task will be painting up the wagon. As I don’t have use of an airbrush. The primer will be added using a rattle can and probably the same for the main colour.
I have brush painted models in the past using a flat brush with really good affect.

I have brush painted most of my wagons, I use acrylic paint which seems to me dry better than enamel with few if any brush marks.

Hi Pete I never have used enamel paint only acrylic, like you said you get a better finish.

Acrylic is the way to go, enamel requires a very rigorous cleaning of equipment after use and using it with brush application runs the risk of uneven layering which invariably results in the clogging up of fine details. Once the acrylic tones have been applied (and I often paint wagons in the same way as painting a picture) the wagon can be sealed with matte varnish which helps against accidental chipping.

Acrylic for me as well, but I do spray mine normally, plus the added advantage that it’s a bit more user friendly to use in the house.

I normally spray mine too but I need to get the spray booth set up again before I can do any spraying .

With me moving over to O gauge wagon kit building, I will still be making a couple of OO gauge wagons just to get the feel of building.
I have added the sole bar to one side of the wagon but that’s as far as I can go. I’m still waiting for wheels to arrive so could be a while.
But for now a couple of progress pictures:

Evening all! I’m restarting the build on my 00 gauge wagon. I know I started this build a while ago but things other than model building have been priority.
I am looking forward to model building again but rather than dioramas my attention is concentrating on building wagons which I am looking forward to.

I have just come across your thread and it's a great read. Looking forward to the continuing story.:thumbs::thumbs:
I agree with the other chaps above regarding acrylic paints. The acrylic paints they have now are awesome, with excellent pigment and they flow quite readily. I very rarely use enamels now. ;)

    Cheers, Gary.
