Hi everyone...what a nice welcome...and a bit different from the sometimes acerbic and toxic nature go the Gauge 'O'Guild!

I live in the Peak District, UK, but was brought up in Bath so my passions are the S&DJR (I was one of the original trustees at the Midsomer Norton Project), and also the GWR. In fact I often wonder what would have happened if the two 'companies' had joined near Limpley Stoke (yes, there was such a plan). I have modelled. Monkton Combe (Titfield Thunderbolt fame) in 'OO' as was, but have now turned to 'O' gauge so have re-imaged/re-imagined a double track track plan in my 'new Monkton', (in a coldish garage). In my mind's eye I wish to model Midford goods yard as portable layout to have in the house on cold winters' days. I have all the 'OO' track I need from my now defunct Wellow layout (http://rtjstevens.co.uk/wellow.html) but still fancy it in 'O' (but it would need to be 2.4m long!).

If truth be known I like building stuff rather than running trains. I've just finished a 7mm Radstock Sentinel kit, and am just half-way through the chassis of a DJH 7mm Ivatt 2MT kit with a Patriot waiting in the wings. I am no more than an 'average' modeller. - a dilettante!

I see one of your sponsors is 'Big Jim' at Connoisseur Models. I would highly recommend his kits (excellent instructions). Usual disclaimer.

    Thanks everyone,

Bonky (my father's nickname for me- it means an accident-prone small boy). AKA Richard.

What a cracking layout Wellow was. It's nice to see the railway in the landscape so well modelled.
O gauge will give you room to add as much or little detail as you wish, we have a thriving forum with several O gaugers on board so you won't lack advice etc whether you want it or not mate. Some of us are "rubber gaugers", we bounce back and forth between scales usually at the same time.
I see you are a Derbyshire lad, there are a couple of us live in the Chesterfield area plus Keith near Alfreton. Hopefully once this covid has subsided we may get to meet at an exhibition or two.

    Cheers, Pete.

Hi Richard, what a great intro and a Patriot waiting in the wings... there is a man on here who has an S&D 7F 2-8-0 kit to build at some point... but I won't say anything more about that :avatar: Some of us here are in the final throws of doing a joint forum build on one of Jim's 4F kits, mine will be 44352 which was an Alsager allocation... not quite Derbyshire but certainly on a line from Crewe to Derby.

Hi, I built one of Jim's 3Fs ("Jinty") and found it an excellent kit.

The Patriot was bit of a disaster. Tender and loco body have been built, painted and lined, but the chassis didn't run well -mea culpa. This is the last time I use horn blocks as I don't think I cut out the 'holes' in the chassis that well - despite using a jig. I'll revert to Jim's method of an oval/floating hole for the middle wheel bearing. I'm waiting for a new chassis from Premier Components (many months on order). Why Patriot? I saw one running in a local MRS and thought it so magnificent I changed from 'OO' to 'O' overnight.

A 7F hey? Tell me more...

    Thanks.
