No not yet Andy, the full chassis build will be the next job... just need to get the body complete first.

Thanks Kim... but that cab is an absolute so and so to get right. I've had to take to roof off again this afternoon because it just didn't look right, its sorted now it was the end grab rails with the back plate columns which were causing a distortion and preventing the roof from siting down properly. Sometimes it pays to deviate away from the build instructions but I'm also happy with how the cab relates to the tender now.

On another note Kim would you have any advice for making the draft curtain between tender and cab ? I had wondered about spray painting folded tissue paper ( the type etch brass frets are wrapped in ) ... maybe with a matt black car spray paint ?

Draft curtains ...:scratchchin: last one I did was on a 9F oo gauge. I’d seen some one use an after eight mint packet, screwed up then flattened, cut to shape and glued on the underside of the cab roof.......worked ok.....but not sure how I’d do it on an O gauge model...I will be watching

Cheers Kim, from researching pictures of Brits it appears these curtains were cut and sewn together from some sort of waterproof canvas as did look like a tarpaulin, the sides appear to have been pleated into folds to hang like a curtain and there were eyelet holes along the edges... presumably so they could be hooked onto cleats on tender and cab. The top section appears to be an apron and fitted over the arched portion above the tender bunker access door and the rain strip on the cab roof, this skirt then overhangs the side curtains in a similar fashion to the early type corridor connector bellows. It also appears this protection was susceptible to damage as picture show some curtains hanging from torn fixtures.

I'm going to give folded loco kit tissues a try with a coat of car spray paint then a coat of PVA for flexibility and see how that works for looks, maybe these curtains only need fixing to the cab and maybe a hidden wire framework to keep it all in place might help... I'll start some experimenting and post up so folks can follow the idea (if it works:avatar:) and of course if it does then I'd love to see other folk developing the idea to suit their own needs.

Would Rob's Lens tissues idea for roof canvas work here too???
    Keith.

You beat me to it Keith, I was just about to suggest the same. They are much tougher than normal tissue paper albeit not quite as thin.

If it's any consolation Paul, it doesn't just happen on kits from the lower end of the scale. I ended up taking the cab off my MOK 8F, a total of nine times to adjust the fit of the lower edges of the cab where they sit on the curved footplate before I was happy (four adjustments on one side and five on the other).

Not got anything like an old shower curtain have you? Either the cotton or plastic type, though I would have thought the former may be a better material for taking paint?

No I'm sorry Andy... I don't have an old shower curtain but I do have an old shower unit, indeed SWMBO demands a new bathroom suite and a plumber will be here in September. The thought of this is actually making me quite ill since the cost is more than five top of the range big engine kits.:faint:

I'm with you no that Rob... I feel the instructions were written in a bit of a wrong order but on the upside if I ever build another Scorpio Brit I'll know exactly what to do and what order to do it in.

Thanks chaps the advice is taken on board and I'll do a few tests to see which material works best.

Here is the motor I'm going to hopefully use... it may need the shaft cutting down to fit inside the firebox. A nice two stage 30 to 1 MSC set up on a JH motor.

I decided this afternoon to make up the smoke deflectors and here is the result with a little bit of cleaning up still to do, the Severn Mill nameplates placed in position for the picture make a nice touch. The deflectors I'm going with are the LMR standard modified type with the cup insert hand grabs, the original handrail design as still fitted to 70000 Britannia was a cause of contention amongst crews who reported the rails impeded forward vision so the solution was the type I'm modeling. 70010 when I saw her at Prestatyn in 1966 had not long had her final heavy general a year previously at Crewe and had been given the additional smokebox door lamp bracket. This is the condition I am modeling the loco in, the only deviation will be the addition of full lining out.

With the body now released from the chassis again I can go for an end result dressing the body with fittings, there is still a bit of work to complete the cab build... rear grab rails are still to be soldered back under the roof and then fitting gutter trims and the roof vents, I'll get this done this week and crack on with some of the plumbing and other stuff like the Silvertown lubricators. The other big shift forwards will be to build up the motion and brake gear then add the motor gearbox unit.

Thanks Toto comment much appreciated, you've seen this loco before and its a complex shape but I think I'm getting there now once the cab and front end is finished the camel's back will have been broken.

Great build Yorkie! It's true what they say, "the devil is in the detail" and it looks like there's plenty of detail there mate.

    Cheers, Pete.
