Confessions of an "0" gauge 'Virgin'......help needed!

    I had heard that some Guild members could be a bit obnoxious at times, bit like one or two other forums where you find a few 'rivet-counters' and other pernickety so-and-so's gather.... I'm fine with forums but no time for those whose sole purpose in life is to be a pain in the backside and a 'superior' attitude, we all had to learn once and to be honest,
    I treat those with the disdain they deserve! Seriously though, as a new starter into 0 gauge, knowledge is power as they say, and my knowledge of 0 gauge presently is only slightly above zilch, so a steep-ish learning curve ahead methinks, together with lots of questions.

    There was a very definite undercurrent of the "who are you don't tell me" sort and a massive invasion of politically opinionated views,so much so it put a lot off joining and as Dundee says I'm neither interested in the politics because it spoils a good forum conversation anyway what with bickering and blushing. With that in mind I refrained from posting for a very long time... indeed I still now hardly ever post there but when I changed my user name to York Paul a certain author and authority on rolling stock put up a slightly tongue in cheer post asking to have his user name changed to Paul of York. I rose above such a crass comment and ignored the dyed in the wool know it alls putting them down as folk who are not very happy in themselves. The Guild is an ok place to glean information from and I do enjoy reading the Gazette I personally don't get comfy in there as its not the place I want to make a mark... Platform 1 beats them all hands down as a forum every time.:thumbup::tophat:

    Like the others I am a member of the GOG and also like the others I too dislike the tit for tat political posturing, I'm of the opinion railway modelling is a hobby and not life or death. I was a member several years ago but left because of the posturing and self importance of the society ruling members, they would swan about at Guildex as if at a regimental reunion. I rejoined 3 years ago as I was informed things had improved however in the last 12 months or so there is a lot of discussion regarding the stick in the mud attitude and reluctance to accept that "modern image" is here to stay and RTR is now a welcome way to get into O gauge modelling. If you can get over that, the guild is a really a great society. I love the Gazette, the articles are usually a good read, there are reviews and news of models and the trade adverts are very useful. The forum is ok, not like here where there is a more matey feel to it. There is also a good sales and wants, plus the executor sales area, though this is being run down I believe as there is so much stock in hand.
    Anyway, I would recommend you to join, just ignore the politics and enjoy the benefits.
