Smoke Ash & Steam ( Marches Road Engine shed )

Premium motive power on Marches road

 

I took delivery of a slaters 28xx a few weeks back, well here it is. When it arrived I tested it and it runs very smooth. The previous owner completely rebuilt the chassis with full compensation. The loco was a little rough though so it was submerged in a bath of detol! The fire box came apart which was a good thing as I could put it back together square! Additional detail was added using parts from JLTRT ( lamp irons, ATC shoe, sand filler lids, boiler band straps, vac pipes and cylinder castings ), Warren Shepherd ( steam Lance cock & smoke box door dart ) Malcolm Mitchell mud hole covers. I just need to get some new couplings for the loco. The tender was fine and had just had new Fox crests, cast lifting rings and Vac pipes added.
The smoke box saddle was given a good clean up as well as the all the flashing was still around the bolt heads. All the gaps between the firebox sections where filled with car body filler and rubbed down smooth. Halfords primer and satin black paint to finish. Just waiting on the Severn mill plates to arrive and cab side route availability transfers and pop the back head back in. This will need a good weathering plus some nice crew from ModelU.
Not forgetting some red paint for the buffer beam.

 

The Layout has been moved to opposite side of the room so I can add an additional 2’ in front of the shed.

2874 now has plates and transfers added.
The layout will now be extended to make an L shape. Marches road midland shed will share a turn table with marches road Western.

 

Inspection pits in place on the extension, Chimney in base colour and the brick work is going in on the backscene

 

I’ve made up the base for the chimney it’s now 6” taller, there will be another one on the right corner.
7444 has arrived on shed, sound fitted and weathered by David Magill

 

To bring the story up to date last year my marriage abruptly ended forcing the sale of the house my shed and the disbanding of the layouts, The Riviera line was sold and I managed to salvage the main section of Marches road, I’ve now decided to completely rebuild the shed layout utilising Tim Horns superb laser cut baseboards, this allows me to store the layout better as I’m in a rented property and hopefully exhibit it at some point.
I have sold a few loco’s as I basically had to start my life over from scratch but I’ve gained a few more over the last couple of months.
The new version will be 16’ scenically over the original that was 11’, track plan will be altered slightly but all of the original buildings will be reused.
Here’s my new 14’s a 64 pannier and the Dapol 08 was originally mine but I sold it to my dad and now it’s returned as he wants the original shed board!! Im glad to be back posting and I’m looking forward to getting going on Marches road MK2.
I’ve also got a commission layout to build but I’ll update my other thread with details of that

Thanks guys, I’m in a much better place now personally and Marches road will definitely rise like a Phoenix and will be better than the first incarnation.
